Let’s face it, beginning are awkward… Let’s pull this band-aid off as fast as possible.
I’m kinda new to this blogging thing. I have another blog that I created so my family could look at how cute my kids are, which I happen to be really bad at updating. Plus, it’s pretty boring if you don’t know/or care about my kids.
This one is going to be different though — it’s all about ME. OK and probably other people too. Like my hubby, my awesome friends, and I’m sure my cute kids.
Yep, that’s me, the hubby, and our angelic (ha!) kids
So yeah….Running is kinda my new obsession. I’m in a weird love-hate affair with it. It started on whim this spring. My friend Paula said “Hey, I’m going to run the Disney Wine and Dine Half-Marathon in October.” I don’t even think she asked me to join her. I just invited myself along. At that point, I could run about 5 miles without keeling over onto the side of the road or get hit by any cars (I swear cars just aim for runners around here – so that’s no small feat). I knew I could push myself to run more and that’s basically what I did. I didn’t really follow a training plan – just ran 2-3 times a week (3-5 miles) and then I did one long run (7-10 miles) on the weekend. By August I was up to 11 miles. Sounds like no big deal, right? Well, training for half marathon in the middle of the summer in FLORIDA isn’t the smartest thing I’ve ever done. I’m pretty impressed with myself for not passing out, let alone getting the mileage in each week. But, I did and I finished my first EVER sporting event with gusto on October 2nd. It was probably the longest 13.1 miles I have ever run (I seriously hope it the longest!), but I was hooked. I was also extremely proud of myself – I didn’t quit, like every other sport I’ve ever tried to participate in. I am definitely NOT an athlete. Or I wasn’t one. Now, I’m not so sure.
Since then I’ve run 2 more half-marathons and I have a few more on the horizon in February/March. I’m also toying with the idea of running a FULL marathon next fall (most likely Rock n Roll Savannah – eek!). Thus, a place to leave my thoughts, track my runs, bitch about the weather, bitch about my runs, and brag (or bitch) about racing is born!
Paula and me after our last race. It was cold. I swear I don’t always wear leggings when I run.
