Five for Friday: Momiversary

Not only was it Braeden’s 5th birthday on Wednesday – it was my 5th Momiversary! You know – the day I became a mom. Next year I expect cards, flowers, and Baked Salt & Vinegar chips.  I think Hallmark could make a killing with this holiday. Agreed?

Ok, so maybe it’s a made up holiday, BUT it’s still a day that completely changed my life. I was initiated into a brand new club and {most} moms already int that club opened me with open arms and provided me with stockpiles of advice (some applied, some didn’t – every kid is different).

There are things about motherhood though that I had to learn myself – and while I’m not going to list them all, I’m going to give you my top five. Here we go…

1. My limit on “What?”  (or variations including “Huh?” and “What Mommy?” ) is 5 and my limit on “But why?” is 3.

2. Snot is a rainbow. That is all. Don’t worry – no visuals necessary.

3. Waking up every 2-3 hours with a newborn is much easier to deal with than waking up with a up a baby/kid who SHOULD be sleeping through the night.

Have you heard the audio for this book? You must (and it’s NSFW – so wear headphones!)

4.  Grocery shopping by yourself is a luxury. Don’t believe me? Read this HILARIOUS post. It.is.spot.on.

5. The love. Oh the love. It’s indescribable – I don’t even know why I’m trying. I just had NO IDEA how much I’d love my kids before I had them. I’m so blessed!

What’s the most important life lesson you’ve learned? Mine might be righty tighty, lefty loosey. Or maybe that if you can make an L with your hand it means left. Thank goodness for Kindergarten, right?

This post was super funny!! Listened to Samuel Jackson..WTF??? and going to the grocery store…oh what memories that brought back. Life goes by to quickly…enjoy these moments.

My favorite part of the grocery store post was when she said putting her kids in the cart is like putting socks on cats. Such a good analogy! Ha ha.

  2. LOVE the idea of a momoviversary. I always feel the same way on E’s birthdays — they’re way more special to me than my own birthday. It’s the day I became a new person.

And I was crying I was laughing so hard at the grocery store post. I tried to leave a comment but don’t have any of those accounts (I hate when name/url isn’t a commenting option!). Seriously, though, why didn’t we know how much of a luxury going to the grocery store would someday be? Honestly, Friday night around 8:30 is my absolute favorite time to go to Publix alone. It’s empty and I spend way too much time meandering around. My twenty-something self wold scoff at me now … and then go to shots at the bar and laugh at me some more. I hate that beeatch.

Yes – I’m definitely a new person, sometimes more impatient, sometime a little crazy, but mostly for the better!

I had to stop by Publix on the way to work today and I was tempted to spend an hour checking out what was on the shelves. You just don’t have time when you a little whiny person with you!

My 20-something self HATED the grocery store and only ate processed/pasta dishes. She would NOT be impressed with me!

I looooove the grocery alone. Even with just The Boy, it’s heaven.

I’m too busy this year, but every year before now I’ve done lots of thinking about the days/weeks leading up to C’s birth. (I think maybe most of the PTSD is gone now!! No crying at all this year!) But it is such an amazing day to look back on. I too am completely, utterly changed.

And the book is SO me. But you knew that!

    • Michelle says:

Yeah – it used to be enjoyable with Livie. Ummm not anymore :(

I really thought I would cry when he turned 5 and so far I’ve been OK! I always get sappy before birthdays – but mine included on that and that’s not going to change! Are you guys doing anything to celebrate C’s birthday — or you are family vacationing again?

  4. Love this post!

… and I seriously use “right tighty, lefty loosey” FAR too often lol

  5. Is it sad that I totally do the left handed L thing? Sometimes I just can’t keep left and right straight. Yet I can program computers to do ridiculous things. I’m shaking my head at myself right now.

Oh, I do it all the time and I taught it to B!! It hurts more to go right when you wanted to go left :)
