Marathon Training – Week 5

July 12, 2011 by Michelle 9 Comments

You didn’t think I forgot about my marathon training recap did you?

Last week was a tough week. It start off AWESOME, but after a couple of rough days, getting over a cold, and a looooooong weekend my runs suffered.

Here’s the rundown…

Sunday – Long Run – 9.5 miles – 1:38ish/10:00 pace

Awesome, awesome run. It was technically a OYO (on your own) week, but my pace lead runs anyways and invited us to join him (he puts out water stations too – how awesome is he?). We met (Paula joined us!) at 4:50 at Lake Eola. After watching Paula drive by (apparently twice) she found us and we were off. I’m stealing some of her pictures she took after the run because they are really pretty ๐Ÿ™‚

We ran by at least 6 lakes and the miles just ticked away. It was fun running with Paula and the views (once daylight hit) were not bad!

My favorite part of the run was witnessing the walk of shame. That will forever be engrained in my brain!

No, I'm not 5 months pregnant. Yes, we are ridiculously sweaty.

Monday – Off – If you consider chasing after 2 kids “off”

Tuesday – Overslept. On purpose. Oops.ย

Wednesday – 20 minutes elliptical/30 minutes of upper body with Heather (so glad to see her!!)

Thursday – Tempo Run – 4 miles – 38 minutes 9:45 pace

Gah, this run just sucked. It wasn’t feeling it and didn’t even pretend it was a tempo run. I’m hoping to redeem myself this week! *Fingers crossed*

Friday – Sprints/Hill – 3.5 miles – 33 minutes 9:23 pace

Umm yeah, this run wasn’t ANY better. I started out wanting to do 3 sets of 1200, 800, 400s — but I ended up only doing one. I tried to redeem myself by running at a 5.0 incline for half a mile. And then I just gave up. I was done. This was NOT my week ๐Ÿ™

Saturday – Elliptical 45 minutes/Upper Body 20 minutes

I really wasn’t feeling spin this week. I couldn’t handle listening to the teacher and just wanted to zone out. I jacked up the elliptical to level 18 and tried to workout as hard as I could. I finished up with some arms/back. It wasn’t as good a workout as spin – but it helped me with my funk and didn’t make my legs feel heavy.

Total: 17 miles. LOWEST WEEK EVER. I guess I needed it though….here’s a new week!

    Hmm…my week was similar…

    Let’s blame the moon…
    or the weather?

Both!! Are you looking forward to 16 this week? Do you run with the big group on Saturday?

I’m starting the training program in Run Less Run Faster now, so I’m only running 13 this week, but I hit 20 before the Track Shack one does (ugh).

I still haven’t made it up with the group. I was planning on it Saturday but I might have had an alarm malfunction…

        Are you ready?!

My week was painful too. Definately the moon or weather or something. Even though it was a “low” week for you, it’s still WAY more than many others do… revel in that ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s go with both!! I’ve already run more this week than I did last week with one more running day to go – how sad is that??

What a wonderful long run, but 4:50…am…yikes?!?! That is some serious dedication where you deserve to oversleep a day!

Yeah – this week was 4:30 — as is next week. When we run 18 and 20 it’s 4am! It’s too damn hot to go later. It was 80 degrees at 4am on Sunday!!
