Today was a day of MANY firsts.
It was the first time I woke up at 2:45am. 10 years ago this was my bedtime. What happened to me?
It was the first time I ALMOST got left behind by my run group (they were super excited to start today – I GOT there at 3:55).
It was the first time in my group that 2 WOMEN outlasted the other 2 MEN. Boo-yah. (Becky is back! Thank goodness, I wasn’t the only female.)
It was the first time I ran EIGHTEEN miles (it seems even more impressive when I spell it out). 18, people. That’s the age when you can vote, buy cigarettes, and lottery tickets. 18 is BIG! I finished in 3:21.
It was the first time I ran with a hat — and I LOVE it.
It was also the first time I took a picture AFTER I took the hat off.
I’m sorry. (this photo was completely unedited. I am TRULY sorry)
It was the first time I took an ice bath. It was disappointing, but it was fun to set up.
{I also used the ice from my freezer – apparently my “cold” water is not cold enough}
At least the view was pretty. It was sending me warm vibes.
It might have been better if I fit in my bath tub.
It was the first time I wore my compression sleeves in public (at Publix, picking up lunch). Pretty sure it won’t be the last.
It was the first time we went on a family swim. All four of us in the pool! (Swimming was actually a great idea after 18 miles, my body felt weightless)
It was my first Bud Light Lime (verdict: better than Bud Light, not worth the $7 it cost)
It’s my first time watching Mad Men (thank you Netflix!!), which is what I’m doing right now. Helllllloooo Don Draper. (Ummm, please add Jon Hamm to my top 5 list)
Did you have any firsts this weekend??

OMG…Kent & I are totally hooked on Mad Men. Started watching it about a week ago! Congrats on the 18 miles!!!
Thanks!! We just watched the first two episodes last night — there will be more this week for sure
18 miles is definitely epic and deserves all the praise! Way to go!

Thank you!!
Congrats on your 18 miles! I love my hat, I can’t do outdoor runs in the summer without it, otherwise nasty sweat drip in my eyeballs and leaves my eyes burning!
. Super impressed with your run though!! Keep it up.
Thanks!! Do you have the same hat? I LOVE how lightweight it is. I was really worried about running with a hat (my head sweats enough as it is) – but it was definitely helpful.
Yes, same one! I do not have running sunglasses, so I am always lost if I forget it somewhere. My only issue is the sweat smell, I threw it in the wash a couple of times, and..eh, it still stinks!
It was the first time little man went to the beach.
That’s awesome that you got up that early and ran 18 miles!! I don’t even like driving 18 miles.
Congrats and keep it up!

Awwww — did he love the beach?? Braeden didn’t love it the first time we went and Livie did (she’s such a water baby). I don’t like driving 18 miles either. Running them really wasn’t THAT bad!
He was hesitant at first about the sand and then the water, but warmed up to it and really liked it. He prefers to approach any kind of water versus having the water approach him.

I had A LOT of firsts this weekend as well!! My first race was Saturday I did the 5k in 25.13. Not too bad for my first race. The others we will talk about next month when I visit!! It was a big weekend.
Awesome job on the race!!! That’s faster than I could run a 5K — although I think that’s the speed I’m supposed to be able to run it.
Can’t wait to hear about everything else going on
Congrats on the 18! But geez that’s early!
Thanks! And yes — yesterday was a LOOOONG day. Definitely worth beating the heat though!
I did a lot of those first this weekend too! I even had a bud light lime last night. But that wasn’t a first. Those are delicious. Pretty sure that was a 201st.

Ha! Nothing like a post run beer or 12. I was actually surprised it wasn’t completely gross. Guess I’m a sucker for lime!
It was my first time making fruit leather this weekend and it was a big fat fail so I think it’ll be my last.
Um, 18? Amazing. Can’t even wrap my head around that. Jason is right — I whine about driving 18 miles. Running it? Can’t even fathom. Way to rock out the run! And I dig the hat, although not as much as I dig the jocks. I guarantee all the cool kids will be wearing them soon.

LOL on the fruit leather. Fruit roll ups it is! You win, you lose some. Did you use a dehydrator?
It’s weird but driving 18 miles seems so much further than running them!! That hat is seriously my new best friend. I’m pretty sure I have to buy one in another color. It’s so lightweight. I have no shame in wearing those sleeves. I considered wearing them to work today – but I’m wearing a dress. Ha ha.
I used my oven. It seemed so easy, according to this Weelicious recipe. I think mine needed at least another hour to cook — a lot of it was still just peach puree. But after 3 hours, I needed the oven to make dinner instead!

My first this weekend was coconut milk ice cream. I may or may not have eaten 2 pints
Are your toe nails different colors in those photos? Did you have time and energy to run 18 miles, hang out at the pool with your family AND paint your toenails??? You are my hero.
That sounds fabulous!! I may have eaten 2 pints too. Ha ha.
Don’t be too impressed with my toes – that’s the nailpolish chipping off in the first picture and me taking the polish off in the second. And while I did lots of fun stuff this weekend, my bathroom didn’t get cleaned. Again. Somethings gotta give!
18 Miles.. Im sooo impressed..cannot even think that far!! Way to go.. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves at the pool..Everyone looks so happy!! Hugs
When I think about it — it seems both really far and not that far at all. It’s weird. Driving 18 mile seems further than running it!!
We did have fun at the pool – maybe at some point B will lose the floaties though. He couldn’t go down the slide because he had them on
What was disappointing about the ice bath? I’m thinking of doing a post on how to do one, it’s one of the questions I get the most via email. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I think it was mainly because I couldn’t fit in my tub! Ha ha. I didn’t reap the full benefits of it. I could have fit if I crossed my legs, but that is NOT comfortable after running 18 miles. Also, I think that the “cold” water was just too warm. I had about 20lbs of ice in there and it melted very quickly. Damn Florida heat!
You should write a post though – especially if you have any pointers
Mad Men on Netflix is the reason why my house looks like shit right now! ADDICTED.

Watching Mad Men is far more important
Way to go! 18 miles is definitely a big deal & honestly the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach! (I’m only mentally capable of 10 right now.)
Yay for Don Draper! TNT is showing the entire series from start to finish as a lead in to the next season in 2012. 3 episodes every Sunday morning!

Nice run! 2:45 is a little early for me to wake, and I’m mighty impressed with your motivation!
Um $7 for a bud light? Yikes, I thought beer only cost that much in cities like Chicago and New York. That is robbery!

I so tried to post from my phone last night mainly because I loooooove Jon Hamm. Stupid thing never worked. Hrmph! Don Draper can be my boss anyday.
And secondly.. (ha) good job on the 18 miles!! We are scheduled to that distance for another few weeks. I’m thinking of doing the ice bath this weekend for sure… if nothing else just to say I’ve done it.

Yes on Don Draper — although I don’t know that I could deal with my boss being THAT hot. Ha ha.
The ice bath would have been better if I fit in the tub. Definitely do it!
Congrats congrats. OMG 18, i am soooo scared of 18. I love wearing compression socks in public awesomeness! My first time listening to a book on tape while running, it was great, miles flew by

Thanks!! It is very daunting – but once you start building up the miles it’s not that bad! I know, I sound like a crazy fool!!
Jon Hamm is totally in my top five.
I went to my first “State Fair” … post coming up eventually
I hope someone warned you before you started watching Mad Men. That show is dangerously addictive. Thanks to Netflix, I went through the whole series this past winter. enjoy!
