This morning I did my last “long” run today before Savannah – 12.4 miles in 2:00. The weather was PERFECT – so much so that I am hoping it hit similar temps in Savannah. It was about 58 degrees when we started at 4:30 (and oddly enough 55 degrees when I got home @ 7ish). This means I got to wear a long shirt – one of my favorite race shirts (from one of my favorite races!). I seriously LOVE this shirt – and the colors aren’t bad either.
(this is an old picture — see the carpet? Gone!)
I was supposed to be running at race pace (10:18 – for a 4:30 finish), but we had some guest runners in our group today (there were 7 people in total – this is a massive amount for my group!), and we ended up going faster (9:40).
The girls who ran with us are training for 4-4:15 marathon pace, so I was definitely the slow one 🙂 I honestly didn’t mind – in fact I almost wish they ran with us every week!
I did get left behind for a bit because I like to take it slow on the brick. I thought I was going to get lost, but thankfully, I know my pace leaders routes. It’s funny – I now know Winter Park like the back of my hand…in the dark. If we were in broad daylight it would be a completely different story! (that doesn’t mean I wasn’t completely stressing out when I couldn’t see my group. I told my lead to stop showing off when we got back! Punk!)
We learned from another group that there was a “flasher” (ummm….if you want to call it that) on one of the roads we DIDN’T take today. He apparently wasn’t flashing as much as he was giving himself some self-love. And being really loud about it. So glad we missed out on that!
Next Sunday’s run is a quick 8 miles. I can get on board with that! Although, I’m sure I will be itching to run more as I’m cutting out another 20% out this week. This whole tapering thing is weird.
Speaking of taper – I *think* it’s is going fairly well. I still need to be better about hydrating – but I upped the protein this week and decreased the miles (but did what I needed to do). While I was completely unmotivated to run today – my legs felt surprisingly fresh. I did struggle mentally – even before I went to bed last night I just felt “blah” about running today (usually I am pretty psyched about my group run), but as always I’m glad I got out there!
I’m now contemplating breakfast — hashbrowns and eggs sound really good. Although, I could probably go for something like this right about now.
Anyone want to go to First Watch with me??
