Everything Else

I’m still trying to wrap my head around my race yesterday — so instead of trying to rush through a recap, I figured I would tell you about EVERYTHING ELSE I did in Savannah!

Friday morning we slept in (it was GLORIOUS!), hit up the free hotel breakfast, and then took our sweet time getting read for the race expo. Paula, the hubby, and I left around 11:30, proceeded to get lost (thanks to my wonderful navigation skillz), and then thankfully found the convention center around 12:45-1 and finally made it into the expo.

I picked up my bib without any issues and then proceeded to buy a new pink Nike hat, a few gels for the race, and some grape Nuun. We escaped the expo before it got too insane and decided to eat at Mellow Mushroom, which we found when we were lost (so at least something good came out of it!). There, we were stalked by SkinnyRunner and had a tasty lunch. I actually skipped pizza in favor of hoagie and a part of me still wishes I had ordered the pizza. Oh well. I have to say it was really hard not grabbing a beer while eating at MM. It’s kinda the thing to do.

Not long after we headed to dinner – as I had made 5:45 reservations at the Chart House.

{How cool is the building??}

A certain someone was supposed to meet us (cough *Sarah* cough), but she didn’t make it. Instead we had dinner with some lovely ladies – including Jennifer, Teresa, and Bonnie. It was so nice to meet you guys!!!

The views were gorgeous – we saw several big boats, barges, and ferries pass on the river while we were eating.

The food was pretty good too and I ate EVERY BIT of it.

{Pre-marathon dinner of an average runner}

After dinner we hit up CVS for some chocolate (hee) and other supplies and then called it a night. I’m pretty sure I was asleep by 10:30 – which is pretty good for me!

You know what we did all day Saturday — so next up is our Saturday night celebration. Again, we headed downtown – this time to Moon River Brewing Co. It was hopping! There we met up with Tina, JulieAllisonMeghannKaty, Ben and Danielle!!

(I’m not sure why all of our eyes are glowing here – and I obviously missed the memo about the jeans!)

We had a great night just gabbing and chatting about the race, discussing what races we are going to do next (I think Tina should run a marathon – who’s with me??), and other fun non-running stuff.

There were a few celebratory shots.

{tequila baby!}

Some beer and bonding

(Meghann – I don’t think I told you how much I loved the shirt!)

Love you Tina!!

And some BIG BURGERS.

After dinner we headed to Leopold’s Ice Cream for — yes, ice cream.

After ice cream we called it a night. I’m pretty sure Ben called Paula out and said she looked tired. I think that would be an understatement. We were EXHAUSTED.

I almost considered NOT going out after the race (for about 2 seconds), but I’m really glad I did. What a fun night and a great way to cap off an already fun and very eventful weekend!

We headed back today – and now life returns to normal (you know, being a parent and going back to work and all that stuff!). Hopefully my walking will return to normal soon – right now I am doing the “I just got off a horse shuffle.” I hope it gets a little better soon! We had much fun in Savannah – but I am hoping to go back soon to enjoy in a more “low key” kinda way!

  1. I like how Dan makes me look short in that top picture of the back of my head. Let’s keep him around, if just for that and his calm chauffer abilities. Plus the fact that we take sweet pictures together. :-)

    • Ha! We were just concerned about you! Glad it was just stupid expo stuff – and honestly if you came and you/your hubby were all cranky it wouldn’t have been fun. Plus, Dan was super psyched that he was the only guy.

      There’s always Vegas!

  3. I never realized how beautiful that city is!

  4. Maybe I should have brushed my hair. Maybe. I almost bailed too, but I’m glad we went. It was great telling marathon war stories with you guys. :) I miss the Orlando crew!!!

    • I think you looked super cute :) And your hair is exactly like mine (when It’s longer) – so much easier to go wavy.

      We’ll have to run more races together! I definitely see a sub 4:30 marathon in my future — maybe even faster!! I know I can do it.

  5. SO MUCH FUN!!! Now I definitely have to do the 1/2 in Sarasota just so I can hang out with you guys post race. And pre-race. And during the race. Looks like an awesome weekend. Can’t wait to hear about the marathon!! Woot!

    • YES! Not only can we get all boozie together, but you can push me to be super fast!

      I wish Michigan was closer to Florida!

  6. Looks like SUCH a blast! What a wonderful and memorable weekend. But nope, it still doesn’t make me want to run one! I’ll leave that to the pros — you guys! Maybe next time I’ll come keep Dan company though! I think he needs a Twitter mentor! JK, he did great!

    • And seriously … (in Chandler Bing’s voice) could I USE more exclamation points? I blame the time change. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I plan to blame every issue on it this week.

    • Yes – you need to come with up and teach Dan how to use Twiiter (I tried – hee). Plus, the after party will be so fun!!! We need to come up with an excuse to hang out again soon. I’m still voting that you guys come to Vegas with us!

  7. Congratulations on your first marathon!!!! Speaking from experience, it may take while to walk normal. :) he he!
