Weekly Menu & Workouts – Last Week of the Year!

How is it already the END of December?

While I am definitely ready to ring in the new year (I love even numbered years <— weirdo), I’m not ready to accept how fast this year has flown by!

After my weekend of constant eating and drinking – my stomach and liver are going on a small sabbatical. OK, that’s probably a lie, but I’m going to try to GOOD. For the most part.

On my menu this week…

  • Bruschetta Salad (had this last night -it’s always a crowd pleaser!)
  • Lemon Artichoke Chicken with Rice
  • Red Pepper Linguine
  • Easy Pulled Pork with Roasted Cabbage and Cornbread

There will be some take out/eating out this week as well. I just have practice what I tell B every day — MAKE GOOD CHOICES.

As far as working out goes — I need to be the cliche and join a new gym this week. My membership at LA Fitness runs out on Saturday (I had a 3-year contract) and I won’t be renewing it. Yes, I’m quitting the gym! Well, not really – I’m just planning on joining the Y instead. It’s closer, it costs the same, and I get benefits – i.e.,  discounted youth sports. They also have child/adult exercise classes – how fun is that? So the tentative plan for working out…

  • Monday – Off
  • Tuesday – Run/5-6 miles
  • Wednesday – Upper Body (last LA Fitness workout *sniff* <–not really)
  • Thursday – Run/5-6 miles
  • Friday – Run/3-4 miles (or possibly an off day)
  • Saturday – Spin if they offer it and the daycare is open – if not I’ll be waking up early to run!

I’m feeling {oddly} good about my running lately. Even though I’m not as fast as I was last year at this time last year (still cannot figure it out – you’d think all of the running I did this summer would have HELPED me) – I feel confident that I’ll still be fairly speedy in Miami (which is about a month way – YES!). I’d love to PR – but I haven’t done speed work in more than a month and I’m not expecting miracles :)

That said, this year of running is going out with a bang. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

How are you ending this year? Any NYE plans?

  1. I think that sounds like an ideal end of the year menu/running plan. This week, I’m planning on seeing friends, running a lot, and making good food choices (what, I didn’t need that leftover french toast at 11 o’clock last night???). I’m also trying to cook at home and get some strength workouts in–I’m thinking today and Thursday. And now I wrote it on your blog so I have to stick with it! ;) Have a great week!

  2. I go to LA Fitness too. I kind of hate it but it’s really the only biggish, mostly inexpensive gym in the ATL area.

  3. How funny–we’re thinking of quiting LA Fitness for the Y as well! Decisions, decisions…

  4. I hate LA Fitness and was so happy to not workout there anymore. And I forget where, but I remember reading something recently about marathon training making you slower since the focus is a slower pace for longer distances. Maybe that is what happened? Either way, you rock and I’m sure you’ll do great!

    • They just SUCK for parents (their kids club is always closed before/during holidays – and I pay $20 a month!) and their equipment is so outdated! The Y gets new equipment every year — LA Fitness gets new stuff every 8 years. Not worth the money at all.

  5. I’m ending the year by visiting Katie in South Africa. I’m. So. Excited!

I’ve been heavily considering joining the Y, since it’s not far from my house. They do have a ton of classes & after trying it out for a week I was a fan.

    • Yay – I’m so excited for you too!!! I hope you have SO MUCH FUN.

If you do join the Y – let me know! We’ll be joining so we can go to multiple Y’s in the area – we could do a class together or something on the weekends!

  6. I’m spending NYE flying for 28 hours! Flying from Australia at noon, landing in NYC at 5:00pm…just enough time to get to my parents house, have a glass of wine, and pass out. Hope yours is slightly more exciting than ours will be!
