One thing I typically DON’T do and I don’t recommend is drinking more than one drink before a long run. Obviously, I’m not opposed to sipping on a drink before a run or a race. I feel like in some ways it helps me relax – especially before a race when anxiety is high!
And I’ve done my share of excessive drinking before a race. (Never again, people, never again)
But ultimately, it is just not worth being dehydrated. And yet, I still continue to torture myself. Umm…everything in moderation, right?
Last night was my friend Heather’s birthday and a celebration was in order! We met at Dexter’s in Winter Park and had a great dinner of Crab Cakes and had a Bloody Mary (satisfying a random craving) and a few glasses of wine. It was fun hanging out with friends – and we might have enjoyed a cupcake or two!
The birthday girl!
On the way home we made a trip to Margarita’s Grill to satisfy our friend Tracy’s craving (plus we owed her one for watching the kids while we were in Vegas!).
It’s hard for me to say no to their margaritas. I didn’t.
I knew it was going to be an interesting run this morning – but since I made plans with Kelly and Paula (and I mapped out the route) there was no backing out.
Kelly and I met Paula near Lake Eola and we cranked out 14 miles at a nice, easy (and chatty!) 10:00 min/mile pace. We are all running the Gasparilla Half next weekend so we didn’t want to push it. Surprisingly, I actually felt GREAT. Maybe it was the weather (high 50s, overcast, with a little rain near the end) or the company but I never wanted to quit. Usually when I drink and run I want to die. And rightly so.
This is the route we ran. I found it on Map My Run and I have to say I was a) impressed that I figured out where we were going (only got off track twice ) and b) how nice a run it was! It was mostly flat, but had it’s share of hills and downhills.
Downtown Orlando is one of my FAVORITE running spots. It has so much charm.
Two hours and twenty minute later later we were done — and I didn’t puke! It’s the little things 😉
And now a little Veronica Mars with a side of popcorn while the kids nap/hubby works out. Ahhh..Sunday I love you.
One thing is for certain — I will NOT be drinking next weekend. At least not until AFTER the race. Lesson learned — one too many times!
Do you drink and run? Where is your favorite place to run? Margarita or wine?
