Confession Wednesday: I Need an Intervention

9 days.

That’s how long it is until this movie comes out.

And I officially put in a plea yesterday with Paula and my BFF Kate… I NEED AN INTERVENTION. (So far they are just mocking me)

I have been crazy, overly excited about this movie, the trailers, the clips, the characters. Notice I didn’t have any February books (and I completely skipped out on my real-life book club book)? Yeah, I was re-reading Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay.

I even bought tickets the first day they came out (although – I bought them for a day/time I can’t go, so I need to figure out if I can transfer them to another day).

Need more proof that I need an intervention? Here’s what I’ve been thinking about lately.

1. Why do people keep comparing this series to Twilight?

Yes, I get it they are both YA books, but that’s where the similarities end. These books are about society and war. About survival and rebellion. And they are well written.

2. There is no Team Peeta or Team Gale.

These books are NOT about the boy. Yes, the “love” story is important, but not in the way people may expect.

3. Josh Hutcherson is so little, but it killing it in his 3-piece suite. (in his defense JLaw is wearing heels, and Liam Hemsworth is like 6’4 and Australian <–which has nothing to do with his height)

4. WHO is going to play Finnick??? And Johanna???

5. I love that these books are about a strong woman and that gender is simply NOT an issue. Nobody is all “Oh, Katniss can’t do that because she’s a girl.” And she’s not sitting around pining for some boy to sweep her off her feet. And also I might have a new girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence to go along with my Elizabeth Banks girl crush.

I could go on and on….Please send help.

Have anything you want to confess?

And PS – This article cracked me up. How many of YOU don’t know a thing about The Hunger Games? You are not alone.

Comments

  1. I cannot wait for this movie to come out so you can move on to sending me emails about OTHER things. LOL FOR THE LOVE, this movie needs to come out NOW.
But, I can’t give you too much crap since I took the day off work specifically to go see it. So yeah, there’s that. I wish the dudes were cuter. They are so not cute to me.

  2. ahhhhhhh I am so excited for this movie (and the rest of ‘em) to come out! I, too, am in the process of re-reading the series. Grad school? What’s that? I’ve got more important things to read…

I think I need an intervention, too.

  3. I know zilch about The Hunger Games. But I was very intrigued wham I saw a preview for the first time earlier this week…does that at least redeem me a little?

  5. I read and really liked all three books, but strangely I don’t really want to see the movie. I don’t think I want to see that violence on screen. Maybe when it comes out on DVD…

  6. I’m so jealous. I don’t know WHEN I’m going to see it! Usually we sneak out for the 10 a.m. showing on opening day (no sitter needed) but — get this — I have to pick a friend up from a colonoscopy instead! Ack. Make sure to report on the movies awesomeness- I have high hopes!

  7. All I’m going to say for now is, Finnick better be hot! haha

  8. Here’s how excited I am — Katy and I bought tickets for opening night, even though my husband is out of town and it would pain me to pay a babysitter on top of it to go see a movie. I have a couple friends checking if E. can hang there for a couple hours. Otherwise, I’m thinking a blindfold and earphones would totally be appropriate for this, right?

SO stinking excited I can’t stand it. And yes, I recently re-read the entire series too and I’ve been trying to imagine Finnick too! Although considering that I didn’t know most of this cast either before the movie, I’m sure it’ll be some kid I’ve never heard of and it will be really inappropriate for me to find him hot. At least Finnick is supposed to be slightly older.

OK, I need to stop getting so excited!

  9. OK, I have to make fun a tiny bit that you wrote, “They well written.” Total typo, but made me giggle. :)
BUT, I totally agree. And no worries, I’m super geeked out about The Hunger Games, too. So much so that I may be going to the movie by myself. As you know, I just re-read the whole series, too, and I’ve been a little down since I finished. I mean, I have a new book, but it’s just not speaking to me like the HG series did. Pathetic, I know. And YES! Who will play Finnick and Johanna??? Did you see Brooke Shields’ daughter is Prim?

    • Doh!!!! I was trying to be ironic. LOL. Or not. Off to change it. My grammar police (Paula) didn’t let me know. Boo.

I’ve been bummed since I finished the books too. Maybe even more bummed than the first time! I started reading Graceling. Interesting, but not the same.

  10. A very large and snarky “Ha!” to the “and they are written well” comment. Yay Michelle!! I’m glad someone else noticed that Stephanie Meyer can’t write worth crap (IMO).

  11. I have a secret. Everytime I hear or see a commercial for Hunger Games and Katniss yells “I volunteer as tribute.” I screech. Depending on where I am it can be loud or not. I’m so excited for this movie but I won’t be seeing it opening weekend… darn it.
