I have been so incredibly busy this week, I don’t even know where to start. Maybe at the end? At what we are doing right now (ummm when I started this post like 12 hours ago)? Well that’s easy. It involves The Muppets, sitting on the couch, and a little family time. If only this whole week had been like this! Instead it went like this…
I flew into DC with my coworkers Monday morning and later that night met with with one of my oldest friends and her hubby. Bonus – I got to see her home that she’s been renovating AND I got to meet her almost 1-year old son.
Also awesome — the dinner that they made — lamb, farro salad, and roasted veggies. I would love for them to cook for me every night. Please?
Tuesday, after a very full and busy day, my coworkers and I stayed in Arlington and ate dinner at American Tap Room — which was surprisingly tasty. They also had TVs in their bathroom mirrors. Yes in. Not weird at all.
Also not weird that I took a picture in the bathroom, right?
We followed dinner with a trip to Pinkberry.
I’m not sure about the Pinkberry hype (it tasted the same as any other), but I’m not one to turn down frozen yogurt. And I had it again on Wednesday night, so it couldn’t have been too bad!
Wednesday was a day full of meetings and then I went exploring with my friend (and co-worker) Jackie. We managed to successfully take the Metro, get slightly lost in Macy’s (we were trying to find G Street — thankfully we did), checked out Lafayette Park and the Treasury.
We also stopped by the White House… both the North Side
AND the South Side (which I like to call the front, even if there not official “front”).
and wandered around the city looking for food. We decided to eat at District of Pi pizzeria and we weren’t disappointed!
We also passed by Chinatown….
and then headed back to Arlington for a trip to Trader Joe’s (my heaven) and The Container Store (Jackie’s heaven) (btw, two things we DON’T have here in Orlando).
One thing I DID NOT do in DC is run. I tried to convince myself to get up every morning and put in at a minimum of 5 miles (there are TONS of 5-mile loops between Arlington and DC) but I just couldn’t get myself out of bed. Woomp Woomp. Traveling for work really sucks the life out of me sometimes.
I got back to Orlando on Thursday — where I did manage to squeeze in a hellacious 5 miles and the squeeze the heck out of these two locos.
I REALLLLLLY missed them this time.
But wait! The fun doesn’t stop there! After work on Friday I finally got to see Hunger Games, which I (for the most part) LOVED. If you want to read a great review of the movie (echoing many of the same opinions on the movie) check out MomJovi’s post. I do feel a little nitpicky about the movie (particularly how they ended it – so confuzzled about that), but as I feel about any adaptation, the book is always better, the movie is an extension. The actors in this movie were very dedicated to bringing the BOOK to life and they did a great job. Anything that encourages people to READ more? I’m on board.
Saturday morning I was up before dawn for my last race! I picked up Paula and we headed over to Winter Park. Can I just say I LOVE racing at home?? I’ll recap this race separately (I started and realized I had a lot to say — as if this post isn’t already long enough!), but as I spoiler I’ll tell you I did PR in the 2-mile, but not the 10K or the Distance Dare. It was a great race though — no complaints from me!
Look how cute we are with our bib numbers being in order!
After the race festivities, I rushed home to shower and shop (with the kids in tow because apparently I am insane!) and then later that night we headed over to the Wellesley Club for my brother’s wedding shower.
Ben and Christina (couple to our right) are getting married in May — not to be confused with my other brother and his fiance (couple to our left) who is getting married on Saturday! The shower was fun and I managed to bring home a bottle of wine (thanks to the bride’s mom!). Win!
And then, as if that wasn’t enough, this morning I ran 12 miles with Kelly (she actually ran close to 14). We ran the Cady Way Trail again – and I stopped to cheer her on as she ran the 436 overpass 6 times (she’s training for Flying Pig in May!).
She’s a rockstar! It was a tough run for both of us, which I credit to being dehydrated (did I mention wine?) and not eating enough. Kelly and I both agreed that our long runs can’t all be good – and they have been lately (minus that whole falling thing), plus they just make me stronger, right?
And finally tonight we closed out the week by celebrating this little lady.
Yep, she’s 3. And I’m freaking exhausted.
Soooo what did you do this week?? Have you seen Hunger Games yet? One thing I did not have a chance to do was catch up on all of my blog reading. Any exciting announcements?? PLEASE fill me in.
I think that post just wore me out. Oh, and I like our picture. Hee! We are cute with our bib numbers.
And I actually hate Pinkberry. I’ve tried them twice and think every other frozen yogurt place that I’ve been to so far is better. (Fabian even threw his away from Pinkberry. He didn’t like it THAT much.) It’s still a dessert. I can’t get into the throwing away thing.
Happy Bday, L! (actually, early bday right?)
I am tired from writing about my week.
I think both Sweet and Delish are better than Pinkberry – and cheaper.
And Yes – Livie’s birthday is tomorrow! She’s so confused because we celebrated today.
Wow! Sounds like a very exhausting week. How exciting to visit D.C. though. That is definitely one place I want to visit. Happy birthday to your little girl. She is absolutely adorable.
We also stayed in Arlington on our last trip to DC! I didn’t do any running but we walked the trails to Teddy Roosevelt Park, and we rode bikes from Arlington across the George Washington Bridge through Arlington Cemetary to all the monuments. It was really fun!
I found your blog via a comment on MomJovi’s blog and now I’m following you on RSS! Great post, btw.
I’m running the 1/2 at the flying pig in may!
Whoa so busy this week!! I also LOVED the hunger games, oh so much panic and stress the whole time! Happy birthday Olivia!!!
Yes to the panic and stress! I was so wired when I got home – even though I knew what was going to happen!!
If taking a picture in the bathroom is wrong, I don’t want to be right… see below referenced blog post.
I’m also a little scared we both felt the need to take the same type of picture of a TV in a bathroom.
Seriously! I saw your post (I was being lazy and didn’t comment, btw) and was like – DUDE, how WEIRD is it that a) we both saw tv’s in bathroom’s mirrors and b) took pictures of it. Ha ha.
