Finally! My LAST Vegas recap — for hopefully a very, very long time (no offense Vegas, but I hope we don’t see each other for a few years – maybe when you are smoke free?).
We actually SLEPT IN on the last day were on vacation. It’s a wedding miracle. And by slept in I mean 8:45. That’s super late for us.
When I woke up, I was just so sad. Most of my family was leaving that day and I was jealous. I know it sounds ungrateful and ODD for me to be whining about an extra day of vacation – but I really missed my kids. The combination of traveling for work the week before and leaving for an extra long weekend if too much for this mama. I decided to suck it up though (what other choice did I have?) and we made the most of our last day in Sin City.
First, we found a breakfast buffet at New York, New York – and stuffed our faces. I believe we went to Chin Chin — the same place that we went with Paula and her hubs for dinner in December. The food was unremarkable – but it wasn’t too pricey ($28 for both us including tax) and we were hungry beasts.
After breakfast, we headed over to Mandalay to hang out with my mom and boyfriend before they left. We also found AJ and then we all went to eat at Red, White, & Blue. OK, so WE didn’t eat. I just had some coffee and we watched everyone else eat. You know how exciting that is
I’m SOOOO photogenic.
We then played a few slot machines and AJ tried out some of my sparkly lipgloss. I think it suits him. No?
We then headed up to one of the rooms to check the wedding pictures (not only were the pictures great – but they were ready and EDITED in less than 24 hours!). Around 2 we said goodbye to my mom and headed over to the Ventian with the newlyweds.
Oh Ventian. You spoiled Vegas for me.
Now, we had a great experience at The Tropicana. I booked it on Hotwire for $70 a night (that’s a serious deal). The hotel is older, but it’s recently been renovated (new almost everything) and they did a great job — but nothing compares to The Ventian (plus, my non-smoking room there didn’t smell like smoke). I was happy to show AJ & Carissa why.
By the time we got there, it was time for linner (lunch/dinner) so we decided to splurge and eat at Otto – Mario Batali’s Italian pizzeria.
We started with a little vino (I had some house Italian wine — not quite sure what it was, but it was good!), cheese (mozzarella, fontina, and parmigiano reggiano) and meats (prosciutto di parma and salumi).
I then had a salad with argula & parmigiano and then a margherita pizza.
I admit, the sauce on the pizza was a little different than what I’m used to (it was very sweet) — but YUM. The hubby (and Carissa) order the spaghetti and meatballs — and wow, I think those are the best meatballs I’ve ever tasted. You can quote me on that.
AJ got the pepperoni pizza. I’m not a big pepperoni lover, but this stuff is aged 100 days and if there was ever any pepperoni I’d eat – this is it (OK, get your mind out of the gutter now).
After we finished eating we found Carissa’s mom and aunt and took in the sights and sounds of “Venice.”
We grabbed some happy hour wine (not as good as the wine from Otto) and wandered around the hotels for a bit.
On the way back we stopped by MGM.
I’m pretty sure I’ve been to MGM at least 20 times now — and this is the first time we went through the front!
What we didn’t realize was the ACMs were going on while we where there. We totally should have crashed them! Or at the very least photobombed some pictures. But no.
We rounded out the day by watching AJ play craps at The Tropicana. AJ left without his money, but I left understanding how to play the game. So, win?
And then we did the most exciting thing EVER…. we hung out in our hotel room and went to bed at 8:30. Woah. In our defense, we had to be at the airport by 7:30 the next morning and it was a REALLY long weekend. But not that I write it out I realize how lame we are. Lame is the new cool, right?
All in all — we had a great trip! It was nice going to a city we were already familiar with and getting to take it easy. We also had a chance to spend some quality time with family. But, I’m not gonna lie, I missed my babies, I missed my routine, and I am SO HAPPY to get back to the grind. Until May — when we go on vacation yet again!
What’s the lamest thing you’ve ever done on vacation? Craziest?
