Three Things Thursday

Thank you for all of the book recommendations! If you don’t read the comments – here are some of the books now on my list:

I have a lot of reading to do!

Now for my three things…

1. I didn’t run today and I’m not going to run again until Saturday. I feel OK about this. Kinda.

What the hell?!

Maybe it’s this time of year, but I have no motivation to get out bed and run.  It feels like a chore right now. I AM excited about running 10 miles on Saturday – but it’s more about running with other people than the run. I need a goal. I need a race. I need something. I miss WANTING to run. Does that make sense?

2. I suck at parenting sometimes. Definitely today.

More on that later…

3. and speaking of books, I want this…

Glowlight

This is the new Nook Glowlight. Has the ability to read in ePub (which feels like you are reading a real book) AND it has the ability to be backlit it when you want.

MOST  importantly — J.K. Rowling has a new book coming out on September 27thCasual Vacancy –  and I hope it doesn’t suck. The scary part? It’s NOT a YA book – it’s intended for an adult audience.

The new book, aimed at a grown-up audience, will be set in a seemingly idyllic English town called Pagford which is described as far more menacing than its pretty facade would indicate.

It opens with the sudden death of a popular man whose unexpected demise shocks the town. The battle for his seat on the local council sets off “the biggest war the town has yet seen,” with rich people fighting poor, parents battling their teenagers, and wives in conflict with their husbands.

Hmmmm….Not sure what to think. It could be awesome. It could fall flat. I’m nervous for her. Harry Potter (which I always write as Harry Potty!) is a hard act to follow.

Time for 3 random questions: What you do WANT right now? Favorite book? Last major FAIL?

Comments

  1. They are coming out with a light up kindle too! I have been suckered into the Amazon system with prime, etc.

Right now I really want to move back to Orlando (working on it, but need a visit from the job ferry…not really a fairy). My favorite book…this is a really hard one, there are so many. My last major fail would be dropping out of a PhD program.

I am sure you are a wonderful parent. Don’t worry.

  2. All I can say is, I feel ya on the running front. *sigh*

  3. 1. I get where you’re coming from on the running front. I hate not having a goal, too. Don’t stress too much–you’ll get back to it.
    2. You are not a bad parent. Sometimes kids are just kids.
    3. I still can’t get on the nook/tablet bandwagon. I like real books. Although, you can’t beat it for convenience, so there’s that . . .

    • I’m going to get my running mojo back soon — I can just feel it!

I am definitely having one of those “all of my trips are catching up with me” mom moments. Today was better!

I used to feel that way about eReaders too, but I really love my Nook! It feels like you’re really reading a book. I can’t read on the iPad.

  4. Maryellen says:

Why such a sad tearing face on my sweet girl? As far as your running..maybe your body is telling you something!! Enjoy your Saturday run.. Im reading a weird novel, written in 1850′s… Saw the news about the new nook.. looks nice..but enjoying the one I have now! Enjoy your day.. It’s Friday the 13th!

    • That’s actually a fake pout. LOL. She’s good, right?

I don’t think my body is really telling me anything – but my brain is being lazy :) I’ll get back into it soon, I’m sure!

  5. Yes, I would have recommended Scary Mommy’s book … even if I haven’t read it yet myself! Ordering the hard copy today. I keep forgetting to. Do you know that she’s having a book signing in Orlando on April 29? That’s why I’m ordering a hard copy for a change!

And yeah, I’m super nervous about JK Rowling’s new book too. I don’t like the sounds of it.

    • You told me about the book signing and I said I was in. I think. Ha ha.

I didn’t like the sound of Harry Potter either — seriously several people had to convince me to read the books — so there’s that!
