Three Things Thursday

1. On Tuesday, I got the results from the biopsy on my mole back from my Dermatologist. Thankfully, it was benign! It took the nurse (or whoever it was that called me) like 10 minutes to spit it out though. I was seriously sitting there on the edge of my seat (SERIOUSLY WOMAN JUST TELL ME!!!) and then relief. Better safe, than sorry.

WooHoo

2. We just got home from seeing a sneak preview of Brave and it (the experience, not the movie) was a DISASTER. It was late (my kids go to bed at 7:30, the movie started late – at 7:30), we let them drink juice boxes with dinner (helllllo bathrooms), and then L started SCREAMING in the middle of the movie. Oy. It was the first time I took her out of the theater. Once we went back in she was fine, but I wanted to scream.

As for the movie – I’ll have my review up next week. I will say that the 3D is BEAUTIFUL (this is the first I’ve ever said this- Go see this in 3D) and that the movie is a little scary. So moms of little ones – be prepared for some hugs and lap sitting (funny enough, that is NOT what L was screaming about). Also, I’m pretty sure this movie is making up for every stereotypical princess movie ever made. More on that later.

3. Speaking of screaming. This opinion post that was featured (and I believe later unfeatured) by BlogHer makes me scream. Although, truthfully I really just want to Ninja Kick the author. I have a rebuttal post brewing inside of me (although, a lot of my rebuttal is featured in the comments, the post was unfeatured because so many people voiced their disappointment). Really, this article just makes me incredibly frustrated. And so the Mommy Wars continue. Why, as mothers, must we rip each other apart and judge? Where the hell does THAT get us? How does that help our kids? We are all in this together ladies – and all muddling through.

Three Random Questions: 1. What’s your favorite princess movie? 2. What makes you scream? 3. What movie do you HAVE to watch when it’s on, no matter how many time you’ve seen it? If I had to pick one, it would be Dirty Dancing.

Comments

  1. First of all, hooray on the benign mole! I really need to make an appointment for myself. The last time I went was three years ago and I was traumatized — they had to dig out (not just slice off) eight moles and I was supposed to return for six more. All of the first batch were benign and I met a dermatologist a few weeks later at a wedding and he was horrified at how they’d cut me up so I’ve been looking for another doctor since. I should get your doc’s name.

Can’t wait for Brave. We’re going Monday night. Hopefully there will be no screaming on our end and of course, E. is a night owl like her mom so I’m guessing it won’t be a problem for her to stay up!

Clicking over to read that article now. Hadn’t seen it.

    • I go to Dr. Knipe – he’s off of Gore St. – downtown. Who did you go to?

I have a feeling you are going to LOVE this movie (but bring some tissues – as with every Pixar movie). It’s exactly the kind of movie our girls need!

      Did you read?

  2. Favorite “princess” movie is the Princess Bride. What makes me scream? Purple Nurples. Movie I always have to watch? Clueless (since I am married to you.)

  3. - Glad your biopsy showed the mole was benign. Yay!
    - I think Cinderella would be my favorite princess movie. I remember having the record and the follow along book when I was little, and listening to it over and over. Wonder what that lady would think of that? Wow, her post was a bit much.
    - There are many movies I will watch again and again if I see them on, but “Sweet Home Alabama” would be high on the list, or maybe “Under the Tuscan Sun”.

  4. Congrats on the good news about your biopsy! I am with you – better safe than sorry!

  5. Ugh! Dirty Dancing? I don’t know you anymore. Ok, yes I do. I just hate that movie. But I still love you.
And look at you getting all sneak peeky again! I think I can watch Clueless or Tombstone whenever they’are on. I don’t even know how many times I’ve seen those movies.

  6. Yay about the mole. I’m actually about to call my dermatologist because I have some weird red patch on my shoulder which I’m convinced is going to kill me.

  7. WOW that is some opinion post! I’m the product of daycare (raised by a single mom that HAD to work full time to put a roof over our heads and food on the table) and frankly I think I turned out just fine! To suggest that daycare is the root of the “problem” with kids today is just ridiculous. Sure, daycare and other early school years are super structured, but it’s not like kids are there 24 hours a day…there’s still plenty of time for “mud and crayons” at home.

I know that when we have kids daycare will be needed. And I’m totally comfortable with that. The author of that post needs to realize that in this day and age, daycare is a necessity. Not just a choice parents make willy nilly.

  8. Congrats about the mole! I’ve had 3 of concern since 2005, all abnormal, but not cancer. So, there’s that.

Pete and I get to go see Brave as D23 Event next Thursday night! Only a day early, not a week.

My favorite princess movie is…Aladdin (hmm okay so it’s more about Aladdin, but Jasmine is my fav princess). What makes me scream – the fact that I can’t get a job in this state (SC)! And, I love Dirty Dancing, too, but I don’t watch it every time I see it. I think I tend to rewatch Christmas movies every holiday season….yep…I do. So bad that I bought a few of them so I can watch whether we have cable or not (currently not).

  9. 1. Favorite princess movie would be The Little Mermaid, love Ariel. (mighta wanted to name Addison Ariel but got shot down) 2. Lately kids talking back to me make me scream, and cockroaches, they definately make me scream. 3. Dirty Dancing, woot! And probably Pretty Woman.

  10. Why did you post a link to that article. I’m infuriated!! Hope her kids don’t have any quirks or issues, because she’d need to be burned at the stake for them. Geez. I too am a product of daycare and tend to think I’m A-OK. The gall of some people. I was really irritated.

    • You are NOT alone in your frustrations. It blows my mind when people feel that way about daycares. I will assure you that Braeden was 100% ready academically, socially, AND civically going into Kindergarten. Not only does he love to learn, but he loves to help others as well as lead others, and he has no problems (that I know of) making friends. Yes, he is a little social butterfly – but what’s WRONG with that? Especially these days!
