Father’s Day Weekend: Always Worth the Pain in the Neck

What? It’s Monday already? This weekend was a complete blur, but also tons of fun.
Friday night there were homemade margaritas with my friend Tracy (I’ll have to get around to posting the recipe! FINALLY we found one we love).

Saturday started out with L’s first dance class!

LDance
There’s a dance studio near my gym that I’ve been eyeing for a while – and a few weeks ago I signed L up for Creative Moment. It’s a 45 minute class for 2-3 year olds where they learn a combo of ballet and tap (to which I say – holy expensive tap shoes). To say L was excited would be an understatement.

L was one of the older girls in the class and I was SO impressed with her focus. She sat calmly and listened to what the teacher was saying – and was not shy about participating.

After dance, we headed to the gym where I tested out my new shoes and also did a 25 minute upper body workout.

I’ve only put 4 miles on them – but I LOVE them!

Up next was lunch at Davis Bakery (it’s hard NOT stop by for lunch!), followed by naps, and then a drive over to my dad’s beach house to celebrate my dad’s birthday and Father’s Day.

Because the hubby works on Saturday, we weren’t able to get there until close to 6. Still, the kids fit in a swim at the pool and then we enjoyed pizza, some drinks, and watched The Muppets (which I have now seen 800 gazillion times). We also celebrated my Dad’s birthday with multiple cakes and ice cream, which were so good that I neglected to take pictures.

AJ & Carissa were waiting for us.

On Saturday I got up to run and proceeded to completely tweak my neck while putting my shirt on. OUCH! I am still in a TON of painand can’t turn my neck to the left at all. (Anyone have any advice?) Getting old(er) sucks.

So instead, we went on a long walk along the beach to collect shells and check out the scenery.

photoSee? I had good intentions.

We really could NOT have asked for better weather!

The kids REALLY wanted to watch The Yellow Submarine with my dad (he gave it for them for Christmas), so we all took a visual acid trip (have you ever watched that movie?) and then headed to the pool again for some swimming.

photo
Since I couldn’t really swim or play with the kids, I volunteered to pick up lunch, snacks, and beer just as Ben and Christina arrived. At least I was good for something!
After lunch, we finally headed down to the beach for a few hours. I hung under the umbrella and read, while the boys attempted to catch some waves and the kids enjoyed the sand.

Around 5 the tide started to get close and we decided to head in and order some Chinese food for dinner. We ended with the trip with round 2 of cake and ice cream, followed by the kids immediately passing out in the car. You know it’s been a good weekend when you hear snoring in the back seat after only driving a mile down the road!

I think this goes without saying, but I hope both my Dad and my hubby had a WONDERFUL Father’s Day Weekend - they definitely deserve it!

  1. oh no, sorry to hear about your neck Michelle :( wishing you a speedy recovery! Loving these beach photos, looks gorgeous. Definitely something I miss, now that I live in the middle of damn Texas…

glad you heart the new Kinvaras! The purple is CUTE! Love mine too, but nervous to put more miles on them because I’m not sure exactly how much is too much, too soon.

    • I am a little nervous to put too many miles on the Kinvaras too! I don’t shin splits. I figure 3-4 miles at a time will be good. That’s how I went from a 12mm to 8mm drop and it worked out!

The best thing about Florida is DEFINITELY the beach. So glad my dad lives on one now!

  2. Beautiful pictures…I love Florida! :) Sorry to hear about your neck.

Love the pictures.. happy to see L’s going to enjoy her class .. Happy Father’s Day to Dan and Mike!! Sorry about your neck.. try hot compresses and a heating pad.. my solution to most aches and pains. Also, you may want to make an appointment with your Chiropractor!!

    • The good news is that my neck is feeling better today! I do have my regular chiropractor appt tomorrow. It was too sore for me to even THINK of going yesterday.

  4. Aw man. Getting older does suck. I seem to hurt myself doing the most mundane things too. I’m thinking you just need to rest that thing. Lots of laying down and margaritas says Dr. Paula.
LOL to the pic of B buried in the sand. His face is priceless.

    • Well there will DEFINITELY be margaritas this week! Woo-hoo!!

No rest for wicked though — thankfully riding a spin bike doesn’t bother it. I’m getting in LOTS of miles this week.

Get well soon. Thanks for sharing those sweet moments.
