I joked around about punishing myself with my workout on Sunday, but my body obviously thought I was being serious because I am down-and-out. The scratchy throat and clogged ears feeling started Sunday night and now I’m pretty sure I have a full blown sinus infection.
{Legal, over-the-counter} drugs are my friend.
So, I’m feeling sorry for myself and taking a sick day. Really, it’s for the benefit of my co-workers. I don’t think I’m contagious (no, this is my own doing), but I do sound like man (when I have a voice) and my nose-blowing is worse than an elephant playing the trumpet. It’s true, I’m a loud nose blower.
Since I am being a good girl and not running (or doing any kind of workout) until I feel completely better, I feel ridiculously lame and whiny. To cheer myself up I thought I would share a few things that I am loving lately.
1. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
We picked this book for book club this month and it was SO GOOD. Read it. Now. The synopsis doesn’t do it justice:
Marriage can be a real killer.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
Gah! Just plain good. Probably one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I cannot wait to discuss this one at book club. Anyone else read it?
2. This “Birth Plan.”
My friend Lisa (amazing mom of 3) posted this link on Facebook. I could not laughing. I hope Jeff gets his IV.
3. This review of Coldplay’s Miami show.
It’s not your typical gushing review. The author of this article wrote it as Gwyneth Paltrow (aka Mrs. Chris Martin) — writing it for GOOP (which, you know I love!). It’s long, but hilarious (and amazingly he fits in a pretty good review of the show as well). I only WISH GP had written this.
4. My new Mia2 Clarsonic.
When Paula and I were in Miami hanging out with this lady – she RAVED about how her Clarsonic had changed her complexion. Since my skin is less than stellar, I knew I had to have one – and thanks to my AMEX reward points I didn’t even have to shell out any cash for it (by the way – my AMEX Blue Card Preferred is pretty much the best credit card ever). I’ve only been using it for a week, but I can definitely feel a difference. My skin is smoother and I’ve had less breakouts.
5. This lotion.
I started using the Neutrogena Naturals lotion a few weeks ago and I LOOOOOOVE it. For one, it smells good. Not smelling like an old lady (which, I feel most lotions do) is very important to me. It also doing make my face feel oily, but it does feel very moist. I also love it’s price ($12!) and how little of it I have to apply. It doesn’t have sunscreen in it – but I think that’s partially what makes my ridiculously sensitive face break out, so it’s a good thing.
6. That Katie strapped on a sack.
I’m sure we will all be sick of the Katie/Tom drama in a week (or maybe tomorrow), but I’m glad she finally had the balls to leave him, his crazy religion, and ask for full custody of their daughter. I don’t know about you guys – but to me Katie Holmes = Joey Potter and the whole marriage to Tommy was just WRONG. Hope she gets what she wants and more importantly, I hope Suri doesn’t end up an Scientology experiment.
7. Deer my in back yard.
Two of them actually. I don’t know why – but the deer make me feel less suburban and like I don’t have a house 65 feet away from me on both sides. It’s the little things 🙂
So, yeah, this list was random, but I’m high on cold medicine – what did you expect (and also, please excuse the typos. This time I have an excuse)?
Now I’m off to go wallow in my sickness, but I do feel a tiny bit better. I swear I’m going to start babbling on again about running soon….
What are you loving now?
Aw man, you lost me at the “no SPF.” I need that in my lotions. I’m using Loreal’s Youth Code face lotion under my makeup and I really like it. It’s about $16.
So you’re digging the Clarsonic? I’ve been considering one but I hate spending time washing my face. It’s like, I soap up a wash cloth, scrub hard for 5 seconds, and then I’m done. Mainly because I go to bed so late so that’s where I save my time. haha
My foundation as spf – so it has me covered. Might be a good night cream if used night cream. Lol.
The Clarsonic only lasts a minute — and it’s a deep clean. So, yes, worth it!
Agreed! Do it, P! I’m so glad you love yours, Michelle! Jealous that you got it for free, but I guess mine was a gift, soooo . . . . and since you’re both raving about Gone Girl, I’ll be downloading that to the kindle now. I’m working from home, but I need some me time, aka pseudo-working from home 😉
I am SOOOOOO loving “Gone Girl” Thank God it’s on my Kindle app so now matter where I’m at, if I’m even the least bit bored, I can whip that sucker out!
I’m already tired of the Tom and Katie drama, but I do have to say that I love the fact that it was a shock to him. Kinda like what he did to Nicole Kidman? Karma’s a bitch, baby!
I just downloaded your book club book, Gone Girl, into my Kindle two days ago. Please keep us updated on your skincare “likes” because I too have issue with breakouts and would love to know how well you’re fairing with the Neutrogena especially.
