Labor Day Weekend

Three day weekends always remind my why I am a not a stay at home mom. I just don’t have the patience or the creativity. Or enough wine. That said, this Labor Day weekend was actually really fun.

It started Friday night — when Jackie, Christine, and I {deliriously} finished our slides for our upcoming presentation.

I have a new nickname. Feel free to use it!

I am beyond nervous about this presentation, but we can’t say we aren’t prepared! I might actually miss all of these planning sessions. Or maybe I’ll just miss the food.

Ummm yeah, we had to make a video. Watch it for a good laugh!

Saturday we were up bright and early for swim lessons, followed by dance lessons, a “quick” workout, and then a stop by Davis Bakery for lunch (we are officially regulars).

Whew. What a morning.

After lunch, I headed over to Nordstrom Rack (where I bought a dress and a workout top for less than $50 – score!!) with my  friend Tracy — and foolishly let the kids skip their nap. I guess I forgot we would be up late. Or I was just charmed by the allure of good bargains. The only sleeping they got was in the car. #parentfail

After shopping, we headed over to my brother’s Bodybuilding Competition.

He didn’t win – but he gave it his best. He has 2 more competitions in the next 6 weeks – because apparently he is insane. <–People say the same thing about my running.

After he finished his thing (and he de-tanned himself), we headed over to Fuddruckers for a super late dinner. I had my first Buffalo Burger. Tasted just like a regular burger. Apparently, seeing half naked people on a stage really cranks up my appetite because I swear I was going to eat my arm off. Wait what?

Sunday we slept in. Ok, maybe I just slept in. 9+ glorious hours of sleep were mine. I needed it. We spent most of the day doing a lot of nothing, although we hit the gym for our usual spin class, and then I did the usual grocery shopping. It was such a nice day!

That night we celebrated Labor Day with my OTHER friend Jackie and her husband Gary – and our friends Devon and Brent — and everyones kids.

Gary did this knowing I have a blog — so, I had to post it.

It was a fun night full of dancing, cornholing, and of course, drinking.

We also ate. A LOT.

(This recipe on Pinterest is a keeper!!)

We tried locking the kids out — but it didn’t work.

Actually, the kids nearly killed each other about 80,000 times, so after the final attempt we called it a night. However, I’m not sure anyone even noticed that we left!

Today we recovered by heading to the gym, hitting up the splash park, and lounging. Lots of lounging.

I mean, isn’t that what Labor Day is all about?? (Don’t ask my hubby — he had to work)

And now that Labor Day has marked the end of summer, we can all start wearing our cool fall clothing and boots, right? Right??? *Sigh* No, no — that’s just all of the stores think – and they taunt us for MONTHS. It’s like Florida’s version of Groundhog Day. Here’s to ONLY 2 more months of summer!

Comments

  1. Looks and sounds like a great weekend. Loved hanging out on Friday!

Guess what though. On Saturday I went shopping and bought TONS of those cozy fall clothes for the kids. LOVE the excuse of an upcoming trip to Canada to actually succumb to those taunting sweaters and jeans.
