Slight confession: I *might* be addicted to superset workouts. Who am I?
What’s a superset? I’m sure most of you know, but for those not in the know (and that was me not TOO long ago), a superset is where do you two exercises, one after the other, without resting in between. You can workout the same muscle groups, or different ones. The bonus: it kills the down time between exercises, which means you get more bang for your buck. It’s a known metabolism booster (if you’re plateauing — try adding some supersets!), it’s intense, and lets you change things up frequently. And finally – if you choose to work the same muscle groups it’s a way for you to “overload” them without using insanely heavier weights. So bottomline: supersets are pretty kickass.
I did this workout yesterday and I’ve been sore everywhere. I’d say it works. It’s simple, it’s straightforward, AND you can do it at home if you have some free weights. I go as heavy as I can on the weights in 10 reps, which isn’t much – but it’s more than it used to be! Yay for progress.

I added a 10-minute cardio warm up and a 10-minute cardio cool down — and this workout took about an hour to complete. Alone it’s approx. 35-40 minutes. You can fit 35-40 minutes into your schedule, right?
What’s your go-to strength training workout? Supersets – yay or nay?

You know what makes those supersets even more awesome? Throwing in a quarter mile speed run between each set. Oh yeah! You’d allllmost be doing Crossfit then. Hee.

That’s actually what a usually do – except it’s a little more than a half mile between each set (usually at 7.2-7.4 on the treadmill for 5 minutes). I just felt like switching it up and doing 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after. I was less tired, but was more sore after the straight sets. Hmmm.
I’ve been wanting to try a workout like this, so thank you so much for posting one for me! I’ll try it soon! (Maybe tomorrow if this weakling can work up the nerve)

I recently started doing more supersets, and I agree–it’s a great way to change it up and to refresh an old workout!

Hmmm. I kind of like Paula’s idea of those 1/4 mile runs in between . . .
I usually do Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones and it’s all supersets. I love it!

I’m so glad I saw ths post yesterday (I’m behind a bit in here!)… Did this workout this am with the sprints in between as suggested. Butt=kicked.
Did you make this workout up? Would love some more, I’m def a “tell me what to do and I’ll do it” weight trainer..totally slack when left to my own devices. I’ve had a few races/goals ive been working toward running wise and the nicer weather has kept me out of tHe gym. Need to get back…so, thanks!
I did throw this workout together myself *pats back* lol! I can’t say it’s super original though and I will give a lot of credit to Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp for inspiring me to break out of my “I’m afraid of strength training on my own” phobia (I think her 3rd bootcamp starts soon – and you can still sign up for $25: http://www.tinareale.com/best-body-bootcamp/). She gives you a plan every 2 weeks that explains EVERY exercise you need to do and it’s also really flexible with whatever else you happen to be doing/training for. I’m contemplating signing up again it was such a good experience!
