The Return of the Long Run and Other Weekend Fun

You know it was a busy weekend when it takes you 10 minutes to remember what you did on Friday night. For the record, I sat in front of the TV for about 3 hours before passing out. Exciting!

Saturday WAS more exciting, although it started out lame — with a cancelled baseball game. The stupid, never-ending rain the night before flooded the field, which means cancelled game #2. Boo! So instead, we watched TV, the kids drove me insane, then I let them go outside and run laps up and down the street. You might think I’m kidding, but you would be wrong.

There was still L’s dance class – where she tested every ounce of my patience by acting like I was torturing her when I told her it was time to go into class (she screamed “Moooommmmyyyy” inside the classroom for the first 10 minutes while I sat in the waiting room and watched. It was a stellar mom moment for me). Thankfully, a  trip to the gym after brought me back from the edge of completely losing it and then the kids redeemed themselves at a very lovely lunch at Davis Bakery.

Thank goodness for redemption. It’s pretty cute.

That night the hubby and I head out for a night with friends — for a birthday dinner at The Rusty Spoon.

Look! I clean up sometimes.

I wish I took more pictures – but apparently I was too busy socializing or something.

It’s not weird at all to have those animals staring at you from that wall while you eat their friends. Nope, not at all.

The best part was seeing the birthday girl — my friend Kari (to my left above) — who was visiting from Pittsburgh. Every time she is here we try to convince her to move back. It hasn’t worked yet, but we aren’t going to quit.

Dinner was excellent: Onion rings, salad, and (half) the 55 Burger. Plus drinks and a bite of dessert. I was one stuffed lady! I probably should branch out and try something new next time I am there – but I have been looking forward to that damn burger ALL WEEK.

Then this morning it happened — the return of the long run!! I can’t say my mojo has been found, but I did have a fun run with Paula. I was originally going to run 8 – but she wanted to do 11 and I said, “Why not?” We did actually attempt to run 11 miles (and we might have – we ran out 5.5 and ran back the same route), but my Garmin only picked up 10. Apparently, someone stole our mile. I want that mile back, damnit.

We took it easy and there was definitely walking, but DUDE, I am going to be SO SORE tomorrow. It’s funny to think that a year ago I was running 20 milers and this weekend I was struggling to get in 10. It’s funny how fast you can lose endurance – even though I do think I am in better all-over shape right now! I just need to remind my legs that they CAN run and FAR!

I had no time to dwell on lost endurance  today though – as we had some bouncing and sliding to do this afternoon – as we celebrated a very special 5th birthday at one of my favorite birthday spots – DoubleDown Athletics in Oviedo.

I’m pretty sure I could have stayed in that foam pit forever. It felt so good on my back! I think everyone needs a foam pit.

After a pizza and sugar induced afternoon we all went home and crashed (there was a lot of napping) before heading out for some Thai and sushi for dinner with my mother-in-law and brother-in-law. I’m not normally one to go out to dinner twice in a row, but I just didn’t have it in me to cook… and the sushi was gooooood.

And now I’m finishing the weekend like it started – sitting on my ass, catching up on TV, and relaxing. I’m not ready for a new week, but is anyone? Cheers to a new week!
