Starting tomorrow things go back to normal – the kids are back in school, everyone is back to work (not that I haven’t been there the whole holiday season!), and we can finally get back into a routine. AND THANK GOODNESS. I have a feeling it’s going to feel GOOD to get to back to normal. Whatever that means!
The biggest thing on my plate right now is the baby’s room – which is currently our guest room.

So, it doesn’t look TOO bad on the surface, but there is a lot of junk hidden in this room! And sadly most of it hasn’t been touched in over 7 years (when we moved into our house).
So first thing first: the junk must go!
Part A of my Organization Act of 2013 is cleaning out the closets. This will get rid of MOST of the crap. I shudder to think about what’s in there. I not talking about just in the guest room though, B & L’s room as well (and maybe in the Master at some point!). Closet organization is seriously lacking in both rooms. Some of this I contribute to the closet doors – which are sliding mirrors. They suck! I don’t use their closets as much as I should because the damn doors are always falling off of their tracks, getting stuck, etc. So these will be ripped out and replaced with curtains and a shower rod. Like this:

Maybe at some point (when they are older) I will replace them with fold out doors, but for now the curtains are an affordable alternative.
Inside of the closets, I’m hoping to do add an assortment of storage containers. Kinda like this:

Part B of getting organized involved switching the guest room furniture into L’s room. She’s currently still in her crib (yes, and she’s almost 4. Parenting fail.) and is definitely ready for a big girl room! The mattress has been ordered – so it’s motion.
Part C might happen a little ways down the road and involves a new living room layout. This is a room we currently only use when we have company (and at Christmas – it’s where the tree hangs out!), but with the guest room going away is going to become more functional. We’ll be selling our (really nice, hardly used) La-Z-Boy couches and replacing them with a queen sleeper sofa. This leaves a little more room for storage – so I’m hoping to find some shelves, trunks, and baskets so we can hide some of the toys (the ones I don’t throw/give away!).

Don’t mind the mess — this room still has a Christmas Hangover
I’ve been scouring for organization ideas – and thanks to Facebook and Twitter I’ve found some great resources:
- Simple Mom
- A Bowl Full of Lemons
- I’m an Organizing Junkie
- Organizing Made Fun
- There’s also this awesome Buzzfeed post that my friend Emily discovered: 52 Ways to Organize Your Entire House
- And of course, Young House Love
I’ve also found some stuff on Pinterest, but wow, that site is overwhelming when it comes to organization (and then I somehow got sucked into the world of hair and makeup instead!).
Also in the realm of organization is the organization of this blog! Blame it on nesting and pregnancy hormones, but don’t be surprised if you see a blog redesign in the next few months. For some reason, I’m feeling motivated to really ramp up on this blog this year. This doesn’t mean posting more – but it means posting BETTER content and expanding my audience.
I got a head start this weekend and actually updated my pages! Check out the updated Races and Books Pages and my new Workouts Page. It’s still a work in progress, but at least there’s something there now (I’m still trying to decide what to do with my 1000 miles in 2011 page! Just delete it? Hmmm.).
So there it is… it’s time to get organized! I plan on documenting my progress along the way. I probably should get it to it instead of talking about it, huh?

Once you get done organizing your house, feel free to hop over to Utah and come organize my house.
It is just SO overwhelming to organize. I feel ya.

If only Utah was closer. And not so cold!
It is so overwhelming – but once you start, it’s actually kind of fun!! We cleaned out an armoir tonight — 2 trashbags and 1 box of VHS videos later. At least now the furniture is ready to move! Closets are sometime this week. Well, one of them.
I want to see before and afters of the closets!! Can’t wait for the redesign!

Yes – there will be horrific before and after shots! I’m embarrassed at how unorganized they are!
What’s wrong with the mattress that’s currently on the guest bed that you need to order a new one? I assume L’s crib is going in the new baby’s room?
There was a blog I was on awhile back and I LOVED the way she had her races page layed out. It was in table form and really easy to read. For the life if me, I cannot remember what blog it was and I can’t seem to find it again.
I’d like to do a new header on my blog but I don’t know what to do.
Liking the gravatar pic!

It’s just a really old mattress – and B has a nice pillow-top mattress. Ha ha. I’ll actually be a little sad when we get rid of it!
Yes, I need a more organized way to display my pages – and I’d really like a fun page layout. I like my header, but that’s about it.
BTW, yes! (to deleting that 1000 in 2011 page) hee

AAAAAND… Done.
Organizing has been on my mind a ton lately. I have to make a list so that I actually get all of my projects done that I want to do.
I really need to make a list instead of mentally thinking about it and then blogging – ha ha! I think I could stand to organize every room of my house, including the garage. Guess we’ll see how far this nesting takes me!
This has been on my mind lately, too. We’ll be turning our guest room into a guest room/office combo, and the office will become the nursery. There will be a lot of closet organization involved, too. I think all will fit fine, but I am tired just thinking about it! Good luck with your projects.

Just wait until the nesting hits and then you will be SO EXCITED to organize. LOL. And yes, it will work out and everything will fit
Good luck with your organization projects! I’m still not done organizing things to my 3 year old can move into his new room and the baby can have the nursery!

Thank you!! I didn’t do a great job organizing before Livie came along and I think that’s why I’m a little nutso right now!! I am getting things under CONTROL this time. Hope you are adjusting to having 2 – I found it easier than transitioning to 1 – but it’s definitely still a challenge.
Oh my goodness, those closets are beautiful. I love, love, love organization, and that just looks like heaven, haha! I think those curtains are a cute idea. Plus, it’ll make it less of a hassle to easily grab stuff.
