Starbucks = Spending $$

June 14, 2013 by Michelle 27 Comments

I took the boy up to Starbucks today in an effort to leave the house without spending massive amounts of money. Can I be honest here? I’m pretty sure the REAL reason I could not be a stay at home mom (besides possibly acquiring a drinking problem) is that my shopping would be OUT OF CONTROL. I don’t have a lot of places to go with a newborn and, because it’s so freakin’ hot here ,it’s hard to get in outdoorsy stuff. That leaves me the mall or Target… and we all know that’s dangerous.

In any case, instead of driving I decided to suffer through the heat (it was 85 at 9am) and walk. Starbucks is exactly 1 mile from my house, so I thought it would be perfect. It took me almost an hour to throw on workout clothes, feed the boy, put on some makeup, and feed the boy again before leaving, but I did manage to finally leave the house. Instead of wearing a sports bra (none of them fit at the moment), I wore a nursing bra. This one from Target.

bra

While I really LIKE this bra for every day wear (plus it’s under $20 – score!), wearing it to go on a walk was not the best idea. Running across the street in this bra to avoid oncoming traffic (even though I had the walk symbol)? Painful and almost a wardrobe malfunction. Lefty is bigger than righty and I’m pretty sure lefty was trying to make an escape. Yikes.

I knew I needed to buy new sports bras (TMI, but when I’m nursing I go from a small B to a DD), but this pretty much drove me to purchase them STAT.

I did a quick survey on Twitter the other day (because you know, instead of Googling you can just poll everyone about your boobs via Social Media) and pretty much everyone who either has big boobs, breastfeeds, or has big boobs because of breastfeeding recommended Moving Comfort.

Big boobs + running = new sports bra needed. I need a recommendation (and don't say Lulu, I'm not going to buy it from there). AND go…

I researched every style for what seemed like hours and finally decided that I would probably either like the Fiona or the Juno.

Juno

So what did I end up doing? I came home and ordered both of them. And then I also ordered a new pair of running/workout shoes….

So in summary: In an effort to save money, I went to Starbucks, came home and spent money.

Sounds about right, doesn’t it? *sigh*

Guess I should stop spending money on myself and buy some Father’s Day/Birthday gifts now, huh?

Appreciating Home

August 29, 2012 by Michelle 12 Comments

I’m home!

After a very uneventful (the plane even left on time!) trip home I arrived back in Orlando this morning. Oddly enough, flying didn’t even bother me this time. I usually (internally) flip out before a flight and today it was seriously no big deal. Maybe I’m turning a corner? Or maybe it’s because I couldn’t wait to get home and see these crazies…

BL$

I won’t bore you to tears with details of my trip — but I will tell you that I was there for training (that yes, I actually got a lot out of) and I killed a cockroach. Like, 100% smashed that motherf*cker. You could say it was a highlight of the trip {I hate cockroaches more than almost any other insect – in the hierarchy, wasps/bees are #1}.

I was trying to think of any other business trip (or any trip in general) that I’ve been on where I traveled by myself — and none come to mind. While a coworker joined me for the training (thankfully!), she lives in the area and I was on my own in the evenings.  I quickly realized that traveling by yourself is fun for about 5 hours and then it’s just super lame. Or maybe I’m just codependent?

Thankfully, because of the delay on Sunday, the first night I was there I just passed out. As for Monday night, well, I was excited to go shopping! I don’t remember the last time I REALLY went shopping by myself. Sure, I’ll pop into stores every now and then and look around – but I’m usually on a time crunch or I’m usually with one/both of the store destroyers. Do you KNOW how much fun hiding in expensive clothes is?  My kids can tell you (for some reason they never hide in the sales racks). So basically, on Monday I went shopping.

photo

I ALMOST bought this dress. Now I wish I had. And yes, I am wondering why I am posting this picture or why I even took it.

I lucked out at LOFT, I struck at about 15 other places. Woomp woomp.

Then, I ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen (it was that or the food court) — where, in a half empty restaurant, the hostess put me at a table between 2 families with young kids. Do I have MOM written all over my face or what?? I didn’t mind, really. If anything it just made me miss my kids — and also wonder why there were at the mall on a Monday night at 8pm. Not to judge, but my kids were in BED. Maybe I’m the crazy one though.

Then last night, I had good intentions (after the workout I totally didn’t want to do, but I forced myself to do because I posted about it) to grab a burger and a few glasses of wine — but then some kind of weird rain storm hit (it just poured buckets for HOURS) and it all went down hill.

I picked the wrong time to go to dinner. #fail

I waited forever to leave (and also, ate a cookie), and when I realized it wasn’t going to let up, I made for a run for it. I looked like a drown rat at dinner. Instead of the burger, I opted for a Ruby Tuesday salad (those croutons are just hard to resist!) and one glass of wine. Lame-ola. Now I kinda wish I had opted to go see a movie or something!

Thankfully, I am back tonight. With, flowers, shrimp tacos, happy kids, and a new appreciation for home.

Flowers from the hubby -- just for coming back home :)

There is just nowhere I’d rather be.

Have you traveled by yourself? Would you? (and where would you go?)

Lulu and FroYo

October 2, 2011 by Michelle 21 Comments

Today was one of those days that seemed endless (but in a good way!). I ran. I cleaned. I shopped. I shopped some more. and I ate.

Man, I have a rough life.

Paula and I have been talking about going to the Lululemon Outlet for a while now. I’ve never been. She (and so many other people) praise their clothing  And today we went.

We headed to the Premium Outlets and apparently everyone else and their brother had the same brilliant idea because the place was packed! We ate a ridiculously unhealthy (and not photo-worthy lunch) and then got our shop on. Nothing like eating crappy food before going to try on workout clothes!

We went in and angels sang. OK, maybe not , but I DID finally understand the hoopla on their clothes. Lululemon clothes have an amazing gift – you put on their clothes and you feel fantastic. They also don’t skimp on the details I tried on a bunch of stuff and finally just settled on a pair of shorts.

Although I LOVED one of their shirts, I couldn’t rationalize the price (even though it WAS discounted). Sorry Lulu.

One highlight of our trip is that we got to see Andrea – who was working after running a half marathon last night. Crazy girl! It was fun to run into her 🙂

We then continued shopping and struck out. Although, Paula DID consider buying a pair of shoes for her  night time career.

{Name that song?}

In the end, she decided against them. After all, the heels weren’t clear (and they definitely didn’t light up!).

We attempted to get TCBY before we left (continuing on with that whole “healthy” thing) but I discovered that a small yogurt cost $5.  Umm what?

We decided to drive all the way across town instead.

IMG_3498

This was probably one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Even though the cashier was severly hung over and I thought she was going to yak all over our yogurt. Good thing she didn’t, because it was GOOOOOOOD.

{Please submit your best photoshopped images of this picture. Creativity counts!}

It was the perfect end to a fun day – sans kids (they were at home having fun with the hubby!).

I mean, how pretty is this???

I love Florida in October. And shopping with Paula!

Do you like brand name clothing? I think certain brands/items are worth paying for, but I never mind finding similar stuff at Target for less!

Yes. This is just a very small peek into my life.

Socks on top of shoes. I think he’s on to something.

In other news, I found my iPod today!! Apparently, I’m a huge dumbass and put it in my glove compartment. I don’t remember putting it there, but randomly checked and there it was. I swear it’s always in the last place you’d expect.

Also random, but I just thought I would PROVE how awesome belts are.

beltnobelt

{I know what you’re all thinking – I should totally be a fashion blogger!}

This is amaternity dress that I still wear to work because it’s comfortable and I love it. You’d never know it’s maternity with the belt, right?? RIGHT?

And that folks, is as exciting as it gets this week. I’m hydrating for my upcoming 20-mile run with a glass of wine right now. It’s made from water, right? It IS It’s whine and wine Wednesday

What’s your whine? or wine? (Cupcake Red Velvet for me — as always!)

Pinterest Monday

September 12, 2011 by Michelle 7 Comments

I hope everyone had a great Monday!

Mine was actually really good! It’s amazing how a productive day at work can make you like you can tackle anything. 🙂

I know many of you (ahem, Kate and Paula) haven’t joined Pinterest yet (even when I’m sent you an invite) – so I thought I would bring my latest obsession to my blog. Aren’t you guys lucky?

I am in LOVE with scarves. I haven’t bought any yet (this season!). I feel like it’s still too hot to wear them (it was 97 degrees on the ride home today. Yay!) – but scarves are calling my name. Yes, first belts. Now scarves.

{Gah – to be this young again!}

You say you’re a scarf rookie like me (I mean really – when would I need to wear a scarf?} ?? Have no fear…

I love scarves! And I love Pinterest.

What are you loving lately? Are you a scarf lover?

My legs are still sore from yesterday’s run. DOMS is setting in hardcore 🙁 Wish me luck on my run tomorrow. Maybe it will help?
