Things I’m Loving Lately – Marathon Training Kickoff Edition

Yep, that’s right. Marathon training is officially underway. Not that I’m really doing anything wildly different this week. This week I’m running 23-25 miles, which has become my norm. Next week, however I’ll start (gradually) upping the miles. I guess I’m ready?

Not only is marathon training back, but so is the ridiculous heat, humidity, and daily thunderstorms. For a few months I was actually managing to do my long runs at night after the kids were in bed (and I kind of liked it), but with thunderstorms rolling in anywhere between 4-9pm, I decided I need to commit to morning running again.

Why is sooooo hard to get up??

There are a few perks to marathon training. Mainly, it’s a good excuse to buy new things. It helps that it was just my birthday so I can say things like “I’m buying these for myself, for my birthday.” Even though everyone knows that I would probably buy them anyways. It’s just fun to have an excuse.

So here a few recent buys that I have been worth buying (none of these links are affiliated, click away)…

1. Amphipod Hydraform Handheld In-Touch (20oz)

HydraformHandheldInTouch

So, this isn’t new. I bought it back in February and it was love at first run. I have never really been one to run with a water bottle, but it now goes with me on every run. Even the 3 milers. It’s very light and cozy in my hand and it holds my phone (I’m actually able to use my phone without taking it out as well). When it’s super dark outside I reverse my phone and use it as a flashlight. Basically, it’s great. I haven’t decided if I’ll use it on longer runs or on race day, but I will use it on runs up to about 13 miles.

2. Nike Breeze Tanks

nikebreeze

I finally found the PERFECT shirt for running in Florida! I probably could run with just my sports bra on, but I like having something to absorb my sweat (it dries fast) and protect me from those stupid gnats that are everywhere (if only I could find something that kept them from flying into my mouth). The material is so lightweight and bonus, it’s long.

If the shirts weren’t $35, I would probably have one in every color. Instead, I’m slowly adding them to my collection.

3. Salted Carmel Gu

SaltedCarmelGu

Don’t get me wrong, Gu is still disgusting and makes me gag, but this is the most tolerable flavor I’ve ever eaten. Maybe it’s the salt? I just realized it’s a winter flavor, and salted watermelon is their summer flavor. I can’t decide if that sounds gross or not.

4. Elta MD Sports Sunscreen

elta

My dermatologist probably makes a fortune off of selling this stuff, but I have to give him credit because it’s pretty great. It doesn’t make my skin breakout (and I have SUPER sensitive skin), it doesn’t smell too disgusting, it’s not sticky, and it doesn’t sting if it you’re a moron (like me) and it accidentally gets in your eyes. I also now use this on all of my kids – including Mr. Sensitive Baby Skin himself.

Oh, and I make my ginger husband use it so he doesn’t burst into flames the minute he walks out of the house.

5. Ridiculously Bright Colored Clothes

I’m all about the neon.

I'm obnoxious. #wooendorphins

I’m obnoxious and I know it.

6. Fitness Blender workouts

I’ve been wanting to add an extra strength/HIIT workout to my schedule — but I don’t have time (nor do I want to wake up early) to go to the gym, so I’ve been doing these Fitness Blender workouts from home. Here’s one that kicked my ass and only took 20 minutes….

I love that they visually include the countdown clock and have a pretty broad variety of workouts (which also list the calorie burn range). Maybe I’m the last person on Earth to discover these workouts, but if I’m not, check them out!

7. This book.

ilyjtwia

Ok, so it has nothing to do with marathon training, except it’s been keeping me up because I can’t put it down. If you want to read something and think, “Wow, she’s batshit crazy and we need to be best friends.” Then this book is for you.

8. Cute kids and a supportive husband

So, I’m pretty lucky (and nobody even paid me to say that). My husband may not understand my crazy hobbies, but he’s my biggest fan and cheerleader. I could not fathom training for these marathons (or writing this blog) without his support.

He seems really excited about this for some reason.

And as always, the cute kids help too. Especially, when they pretend to like each other.

WHICH IS ALWAYS (ha).

Anything running (or non-running really) that you’re loving lately?

Things I’m Loving Lately

First things first…the winner of my giveaway is Kristen!

Yay Kristen!! I really want to try those Picky Bars. They sound amazing.

Look for an email from me (umm, sometime soon) with more info :)

So…I have to admit, things are pretty boring around here. While I have no problems getting out and about – IT’S EXHAUSTING. I’m still recovering from this weekend where we managed to go the Splash Park, Barnes & Noble, Davis Bakery for a family breakfast, a birthday party, and grocery shopping.

Hoping this wears them out! Where do they get all of their energy??

While the kids are at summer camp, Evan and I are sitting around recovering. He has had a case of the grumps for the past two days.

But, he’s still cute. And getting SO BIG!

Despite the relatively boring days (I mean how exciting it is sitting on the couch?) there are a few things that I’ve been loving on lately that I thought I would share. Bonus: none of them are baby related!

Blogs

Obviously I’ve had a lot of computer time and therefore a lot of blog time. Here are a few new (to me) blogs that I’ve been reading regularly. I don’t always comment because typing with one hand gets old. Actually, some of these people have no idea that I read their blogs. Surprise! I stalk you.

Have any blog recommendations for me? Check out my list of other blogs I frequent HERE.

TV

For a while now, Jackie Jovi has been trying to get me to watch Parks and Rec. Well, congratulations Jackie YOU WIN.

sharpest rings
I’m almost done with Season 2 and I don’t see any signs of stopping. I have to say I adore both Amy Pohler and Rashida Jones. And whoever does their makeup. They always look glowing and amazing. Can they come do mine?

Clothes

Dan and I went shopping last Wednesday (he was thrilled to go to the mall on his day off) and I bought four of these shirts from Loft.

Shirt

I was actually tempted to buy it in every single color available, but I restrained myself.  It’s perfect because I can wear it with anything, it shows off my newly acquired chest nicely (and not in a pornstar kinda way – though I could totally rock that look too right now) and it’s billowy enough to hide my postpartum pooch.

I did learn during this shopping trip, however, that I should not be allowed to talk to strangers. I’m pretty sure I told the saleswoman that I planned on “tasting the rainbow” (because I bought this shirt in so many bright colors) – obviously and that it’s a good thing I “couldn’t wear all of the shirts at once.” I’m a conversationalist.

Socializing

I got to be a real adult last Friday night and got to celebrate this girl’s birthday!

Untitled

Next time I might actually do my hair!

I might have only had one drink (which was amazing – I finally got to enjoy an Eola 101! I need to recreate this at home) and got home by 10:30, but it was good to get out and not think about anything baby related for a little while. I’m not 100% sure I formed coherent sentences or had a lot to offer to any conversations, but hey I was out.

Food

I’m a little obsessed with the Sabra Garden Humus and carrots.

Untitled

In fact, I might be eating it right now.

Makeup
I have scary, scary dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep (don’t believe me? check out yesterday’s selfies.) and in effort not to scare people outside of my house I have been using this concealer under my eyes.

concealerstickIt’s probably NOT the best concealer out there, but it’s cheap and it does the job. You are welcome strangers.

Wine
I am not on the whole organic train (I love pesticides in my body) – but this bottle wine was 2 for $10 at Publix on Sunday — and who am I to pass up a deal like that?

natura

For those who can’t read the tiny label that says Natura Cabernet Sauvignon.

I only bought two bottles because that’s all that was left. I totally need to stop by again soon to see if this deal is still going on because a) it was really good for cheap wine and b) I am all about stocking up, especially since I drink a glass and then pass out. I know it’s not going to be like that forever. I know I’ll be back to drinking an entire bottle in one sitting soon (I’d say I was kidding, but we all know I would be lying). I really should have sought out deals like this while I was pregnant – but I felt weird buying wine in bulk.

So yeah, it’s the little things that get me through the days (and nights!).

What are some of your favorite things?

NYE + Things I’m Loving Lately

I hope everyone had a great New Year’s Eve! Our’s was pretty low key (at home), but we spent it together. We ate way too much Chinese food for dinner (anyone else eat Chinese on NYE?) and then got high on sodium.

Chinese for dinner. It's a tradition!

I *might* have had to take a little catnap to stay awake, but I managed to stay up until 2013.

We woke up the kids at 11:30. They were not impressed.

Untitled

We toasted at midnight (ok, maybe I took this before midnight)…

Cheers! Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2013!!

And then went outside and lit sparklers (mainly because I’ve had them for 2 years and have done nothing with them).

Untitled

We also watched a bunch of our drunk neighbors light paper lanterns and watch them drift into the wooded area behind our house. We thought we were going to have to call the fire department a few times, but thankfully it’s rained recently. Talk about a heart attack! Idiots.

In the spirit of the new year (ok – not really – I’m just really bad at segues) — I wanted to share some of the things I’ve recently discovered that I’m completely infatuated with lately.

This face wash: Bare Minerals Deep Cleansing Foam

BMFoam

I got this as a sample with a recent Sephora order a couple of months ago and figured “Eh, why not try it.” I’m usually a Cetaphil bar soap/Neutrogena Naturals kinda girl, but lately my skin has been HORRIBLE. I couldn’t decide if it was due to hormones or just due to what I was using to clean my face. After using this, I’m pretty sure it’s what I was using to clean my face.

I put a little bit on my Clarsonic (which, for the record I am still loving 6 months later) and my face feels amazing.

This facial moisturizer: Origins Zero Oil Lotion

ZeroOil

I haven’t been able to wear lotion on my face for the past 3 months. I take that back – I wear it, but I regret it. It’s been a nightmare because it’s not like I don’t NEED to wear it.  So my face has either felt dry and dead looking or like I was going through puberty again.

I did some research and I found the Zero Oil Lotion — and I am SO thankful. It’s perfect for my skin and it also acts as great primer for makeup. It’s not cheap, but I guess I should just accept that cheap + skincare is just not going to happen. I haven’t given in to anti-aging serums and whatnot quite yet – but I’m sure that will happen soon enough!

This coffee maker: Cuisinart Grind and Brew

Coffeemaker

My coffee maker died the day AFTER Christmas. I was pretty bummed – mainly because I had to go to work and coffee is the only thing that gets me there. I typically drink one big cup (or two smaller cups) even going a few hours without it in the morning is painful (yes, this is a first world problem for sure).

I briefly considered going the Keurig route – but meh. Keurig brewed coffee is just NOT strong enough for me. Then I considered the Verissimo (Starbucks coffee maker), but it’s really not flexible enough for me. While I love Starbucks lattes, I’m not a huge fan of their coffee (go figure). So when Kate recommended I check out a grind and brew machine a lightbulb went off! And that’s exactly what I went with (plus it was on mega sale on Amazon!). I’ve had it since last week and it brews some amazing coffee.

This body lotion: Organix Hydrating Moroccan Argan Oil Creamy Oil Body Lotion (<–world’s long name for lotion)

bodylotion

I am itchy 98% of the time — especially when I forgot to put on lotion (which is more often than I’d like to admit) — but this stuff is amazing. The best part? It’s not greasy. It’s hard to explain, but when it dries it feels more like a powder. This is good thing because even though I have ridiculously dry skin, I HATE the way lotion feels on my skin. Illogical? Yes.

This hair stuff: Organix Moroccan Argan Penetrating Oil

Oil

I didn’t even realize that this was the same brand as my lotion until I saw the bottles sitting next to each other (yes, I am special) – but I LOVE this stuff for my hair and it’s not insanely expensive (I think it was $7 for the bottle – and you get a lot of it). It doesn’t weigh my hair down and it doesn’t make my hair feel stiff or sticky. I guess you could say it does a good job penetrating it.

This drink: Uncle Matt’s Organic Orange Juice

UncleMatts
Just looking at this picture makes me want to drink another glass. It tastes fresh, it’s family owned, AND it’s local. I just saw this at my Publix yesterday I’m pretty sure I could down the whole bottle in one sitting. Chugging contest anyone? I’m not letting myself, but I could. This MIGHT be because I’m suddenly craving OJ or it could be because it’s awesome.

Is there anything that you’re loving lately?

FYI – I’m not getting anything for pimping out these products. They aren’t even linked to any kind of affiliate program. I just really like them and I hate that I have to post this disclaimer but it bothers me more than when people aren’t forthcoming about what they are posting.
