Things Lately

Well hello there Thursday. How YOU doin’?

I have to admit, I’m usually pretty happy when the weekend comes around, but since I’ve been on maternity leave, Thursday just means another week is flying by. I’m going back to work on July 15th and that date is rapidly approaching. Enough of that sadness…here’s what going on with me this week.

1. It’s birthday week! Not mine (that’s next week) but Dan’s.

His birthday is Saturday and we are celebrating the old man by taking a family trip to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. I have nothing else planned at the moment. I feel like we SHOULD celebrate in a big way because we are both turning 35 and for some reason that feels momentous. Although Sweet Tomatoes IS pretty awesome.

2. I am still working on finishing Evan’s room and I will be getting these letters in the mail in the next week or so…

name proof

After much hemming and hawing, I custom ordered them from a seller on Etsy. Braeden and Livie also have their names on their walls (I did B’s myself – but no longer have the patience or time for creativity). I’m still looking for prints to go on the other wall and then I’ll be done!

FYI – That is not purple, but grey. It’s just a little off because the lighting.

3. I swear I have two other kids and they are really cute (I might be biased). Proof:

They are super busy with summer camp and also exhausted when they get home. It’s great because they generally go to bed and pass out HARD (although, they normally go to bed without any problems any way) but it’s BAAAAAD because they get home and they are super whiny and super stinky. They seem to have having a fun summer though and that makes me feel a little bit better about sending them off to camp while I stay home. I appreciate the time with Evan though, I have to ration out my mom guilt where I can.

4. Something interesting and (somewhat) educational: This morning on Good Morning America they had a news story previous news articles about women and how their fertiilty drops significantly after age 35 was citing research from French birth records from 1670 to 1830. Umm what??

This article in The Atlantic debunks those numbers. Guess what ladies? You’re more fertile than you think! I have to say, the whole “have a baby” before you hit 35 (when you are considered Advance Maternal Age (AMA)) was an underlying reason on why I decided to have a 3rd baby this year. Although, when talking to my Dr. about it last year he DID say that those numbers were antiquated. I just didn’t know by how much! The article brings up some pretty good points to consider when looking at the research behind fertility and even birth defects/ miscarriage. There’s so much UNSAID about fertility – how can we trust any of it to apply to us?

5. I got my hair done yesterday.

Yep, I feel like a human again!

It feels so good not to have roots and dead ends– and you can see my eyes again! I have to admit, the last few weeks I’ve mainly been wearing my hair up in a bun, but it definitely felt nice to be pampered for a few hours.

I think E likes the colors. I caught him staring at my bangs this morning. Or maybe he just likes my bangs.

6. I have started quite the wine collection with the goal of NOT drinking it by the end of the summer. Lol.

Stocking up. Maternity leave is dangerous.

I bought a few more “deal” bottles from Publix this week and stocked up at Total Wine & More today. It’s like a new project for me or something.

7. Speaking of alcohol, I have a new favorite beer.

Kona Brewing Co. Big Wave.

It light and crisp and has hints of grapefruit, which in my opinion is the perfect summer beer.

8. I am in need of some new music. (Countdown to running? T-minus 5 days!)

There are the latest songs I have on my “Return to Running” playlist – but obvious I need a few more. Hit me with your favorite song.

9. Speaking of songs. I have to agree with this assessment

What.the.heck? And WHY?

10. Evan is still cute.

He thinks he's such a big boy. #stillanewborn #5weeksold

Sorry (I’m not sorry), I couldn’t help myself.

What’s going on in your world this week? Don’t mind me as I go to bed now. Zzzzz. Have I mentioned I”m tired?

Thursday Things

Yep, another Thursday. It’s been a pretty low key week, but I’ve been in a ridiculously good mood (yes, really!) with ridiculously good hair and makeup. What is going on here??

1. This has been all over the interwebz, but this is pretty much the greatest thing I’ve watched this week.

2. I take that back. It’s the second greatest thing I’ve watched this week. The first was the Frat Party fight on The Mindy Project. I couldn’t find the fight, but I did find my favorite line of the episode.

This show gotten so good! Watch it this summer and catch up, OK?

3. The Social Security Administration released it’s top names of 2012 list today (maybe the baby was waiting for this?) and none of my top choices are in the top 10. I’m kinda relieved, although Olivia was the #2 or #3 name the year she was born and we have met very few Olivia’s in our area. Go figure.

4. A year ago today we were here…

A year ago I was here - BR Cohn Winery in Sonoma - kicking off my brother's wedding. *sigh* #tbt

That would be BR Cohn Winery in Sonoma. It’s crazy to think it’s already been a year! I think about that place every day.

I am still determined to buy a vacation house there. Seriously.

5. My newest read is Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham.

Yes, the Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls and Parenthood. Did you know she has a BA in English from Barnard (as well as her MFA from SMU). This makes me love her even more!

I’m still reading Life After Life, but given my umm situation I need something light and fluffy to take my mind off of things. This fits the bill.

6. This is pretty funny.

SO wait… that ISN’T an alien getting on a spaceship?? LMAO. (read it and laugh with me, please?)

Can you tell I’m all about the funny this week??

What are some of your favorite Thursday Things?

Thursday Things

I have been trying to keep myself busy this week – so far, so good. And I’ve only been a little crazy. Ahem. So, here are this week’s Thursday Things…

1. I won Mom of the year points and took B to a early screening of Iron Man 3 on Monday. Look for my review tomorrow! (Hint: We both liked it).

Still excited about the free shirt he got last night at the Iron Man 3 screening.

2. I got a 90-minute prenatal massage yesterday and it was GLORIOUS. Ahhhh. She really helped me relax my back and neck (they were even a little sore last night)  – and once again I’m pretty sure I was snoring. I also discovered that I my glutes are pretty tight – especially on the right side. My friends joked that I’m just  half a tight-ass! I didn’t realize I had some much tension going on in up in there – but I’m hoping that the massage helped losen those muscles up a little.

We also discussed post-due date options and my current plan is to call and schedule some acupressure/acupuncture if I get to the point where I have to schedule an induction. The owner/massage therapist, Pam (who is also a doula), said that they’ve had a high success rate and that people typically go into labor within 12 hours. Even if it doesn’t work – I definitely think it’s worth a shot!

3. I had my annual performance review at work today. It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve been at my job for 2 years! Remember when I started? I have to say, I’ve had a pretty good year and I’m looking forward to the year ahead — even though I am dreading those first few months back from maternity leave.

4. We our pictures back from Sunday!! Below are some of my favorites (it was REALLY hard to narrow these down!). If you are looking for a photographer who is great to work with in Orlando — definitely contact Andi! It the least painful photo session we’ve ever had – and everyone is looking at the camera in the majority of the photos — that is no small feat!

5. I am totally excited about the Great Gatsby album coming out next week (you can preview it here on NPR).

Jay-Z helped produce it and yep, I love Jay-Z.

6. It’s been raining for 2 days now and it’s supposed to rain all weekend. I am really, really spoiled because I don’t have to deal with snow – but rain is SO DRAINING. I can handle it for about a day (especially if that day is spent on the couch reading and napping) and then I’m done. There is a reason we live in the SUNSHINE STATE.

7. I have been having contractions on and off all day and they are driving me bananas! I wish they were doing something productive, but so far nothing. I would be perfectly happy to be pregnant for 3 more months if it weren’t for these freakin’ contractions (please don’t make me follow through on that though). Does anyone else experience this and NEVER go into labor on their own??? What is going on body?? ARGH!

On a happy note… tomorrow is Friday!!! We made it through another week!

Thursday Things

I can’t believe another week has flown by! Here are this week’s Thursday Things…(warning…it’s kinda all over the place).

1. I woke up yesterday with a sore throat. I’m not 100% sure if it’s a cold or allergies, but I’m taking Zyrtec-D as if it’s allergies and hoping it doesn’t turn into a sinus infection. I had a brutal sinus infection the last few weeks I was pregnant with L (it cleared up before she was born, thankfully), which resulted in a horrendous cough AND ear infection – so I’d like to avoid that at all costs.  I feel better, but now have medicine head and zero appetite. I really CAN’T complain because I’ve pretty much avoided being sick for most of this pregnancy, but REALLY body? NOW?

2. Today is “Take Your Kids To Work Day” and unlike last year my work is actually did something. However, I decided for my own sanity to leave my kids out of work. Lol. I’d to use the excuse that I am just too busy wrapping up loose ends before I go out on leave (which is partially true), but really I’m just being selfish. Also, I’m lazy because I didn’t want to drive and get them – there’s no way in hell they could have stayed with me the whole day. I thought I would feel more mom guilt about this, but… nope.

3. I am pretty sure I’m more excited about this movie than any other movie coming out this summer. Yes, even more than Iron Man, Gatsby, or Superman (which, I have to say *drool* about – good choice, movie peeps, going with Henry Cavill).

My kids (and I) LOVE Monsters Inc. It’s always their first at-home movie choice AND the only movie they will both compromise on without being bribed.

4. If you read my last bullet and don’t know who Henry Cavill is – here you go:

He has that cool two eye color things going on…

5. I think I’m done with strength training for now. I might change my mind this weekend, but as of right now it’s just uncomfortable doing anything but walking. Actually just sitting is uncomfortable right now, but you know what I mean. I have to pat myself on the back though – I never thought I would strength train until 38 weeks!

6. I was feeling good all week until today — and now I’m just a mess.

By 11:30 today I was just done with the day. At least tomorrow is Friday. Maybe I should have made this my first bullet? At least it explains why I am all over the place.

On that note… What movie are you looking forward to this summer?

Thursday Things

What an emotional week. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to put this week behind me (not forget it, but you know what I mean).

1. We have an exciting weekend planned – and none of it involves me giving birth, so I hope we can stick with our original plans. Tomorrow night, Dan and I are having dinner with my brother and sister-in-law at Ravenous Pig. I’ve never eaten at Rav Pig before but it’s definitely touted as one of the best restaurants in Orlando. I’m just a little bit excited. Saturday afternoon we are driving down to S. Florida to visit friends – actually the same friends we went to Tallahassee with last year. We haven’t seen them since then!

Just hoping the rain stays away!! #gonoles #FSU

Just don’t tell my Dr. Shhhh!

2. Baby stuff…

I’m 37 weeks now, which means I am full term. Woo-hoo! I did, unfortunately, test positive for GBS. I pretty much expected it, but blah. I’m not worried about the antibiotics during labor/delivery (it’s just going through my IV that I’ll get anyway), but I’m a touch paranoid after what happened to L. I just keep telling myself that the odds are very, VERY minimal that it could happen again.

I went to the Dr. on Tuesday and had my first “check.” I’ll spare you the details, but I kinda forgot how uncomfortable that whole things is. I’m pushing the baby out of WHERE again? Those who have had babies know what i’m talking about. I thought it was funny that the nurse had me undress and then after taking my normal measurements my Dr. asked if I wanted him to check me. Umm… you couldn’t asked me this BEFORE my pants were off? I probably would have said no, but, I mean, the pants were already off. I also figured it would be good to know if there was anything going on before we go out of town on Saturday (by the way, we are totally not supposed to be going out of town – but it’s not like there isn’t a hospital or 10 near where we are going). For all of you on the edge of your seats – the verdict was that labor was not imminent, like ever. No surprise there. Babies love my uterus.

I haven’t hit that point where I NEED to have the baby for my mental sanity – but I am ready for the baby to come. Even my short-term disability paperwork has been submitted! I swear the baby had a growth spurt last night because I woke up feeling so incredibly huge today. How do people give birth to multiples? God, I’m so whiny.

3. I was wearing Aveeno BB Cream, but ran out and the store was out of it (because you know, it’s only sold at one store) — so I ended up with Garnier’s Oil Free BB Cream instead. I know this girl LOVES the one she wears, so I figured it was worth a shot.

I think I like it – although I feel like it makes my face look more matte. It doesn’t make my face break out though, so I’ll stick with it for now!

4. I love this.  31 Signs You’re a Florida State Seminole.

Yep. Most of these are true. Some of them don’t apply to me though – since they weren’t there when I was there. #old

5. I did another quick at home workout tonight. I was going to go to the gym, but I talked myself out of it. AGAIN. I didn’t really want to tackle the weight room and I plan to walk on the treadmill tomorrow morning. So I did this squats and lunges workout instead. I wanted to do 5 rounds, 10 reps each (with 10/20lb weights), but I was done after 3.

If you can’t tell, I’m focusing on getting that baby to move DOWN. I’ve also been spending a lot of time sitting on stability ball and doing some yoga positions. Not sure if this will help me at all, but it’s worth a shot!

Anyone have any labor inducing tips for me? You’d think I’d have some to share – but nope!

Hope everyone is surviving the week!
